About

I drink, and I make stuff. (I actually drink from the stuff I make. You can too!)

I’m Liz, nice to meet you!

In 2008 I began learning about and creating ceramic art as a fun, creative outlet, and I loved it! I am self taught, with lots of practice! But, I have been very lucky to have had some great teachers show me things along my way.

In 2010 my husband bought me a pottery wheel, I purchased a kiln, and set out to create the best, funkiest line of art (and home decor) I could muster! (I had a bit of repressive day job as a graphic designer.) Luckily, people really responded to my ceramic art creations, and my entrepreneurship began!

Now I create functional ceramic art full time! Yes, running a business is a little scary. Since I like Halloween, I’m taking it as a good omen, that everything will work out fine!

The name Artifact, is because my original intent was in replicating artifacts. I loved the Mayan sculptures and Native American designs on pottery. I started realizing these ancient motifs reflected ancient life. What imagery reflects our life? I’m influenced heavily by pop culture, which for me is everyday life. I think my work speaks to people who crave something a little different than what is found in a big box store.

I make quality, handmade, one of a kind pottery that feels comfortable to hold and will last, even with with everyday use. That means my pottery will be an artifact hundreds of years from now! Can you imagine, a crazy octopus design on a mug, found as far inland as Ohio in the year 2158? I kinda don’t want to think about it.

So, I kept the name, Artifact Pottery.

My decorative motifs are usually Gothic like the krakens, monsters and ravens.
(oh my!) I have Day of the Dead and skull motif items year round. I've even done mermaids, and tiki items.

Yes, that is a bat in my logo! It symbolizes opening the door for something new and healing. And I did, and did I mention, I really love Halloween! I specialize in Halloween items in this shop around the fall season.

Thanks for visiting my shop!

I hope you feel as though you’ve found a kindred spirit!
