I absolutely love this pattern! It is super quick (I made it in about 3 1/2 days) and easy, and I love the chunky look you get by working with 2 strands. A super cute gift for any new baby. :)

About

Made By Hand

I have been working with my hands, making things, all of my life. I grew up in a home where handmade items were abundant, celebrated, and a part of every day living. Each morning I put on slippers crocheted by my mother, wore dresses sewn by my grandmother, and tucked a handkerchief into my pocket hand-embroidered with my great-grandmother's initials. If we needed something, we made it. If we wanted something we couldn't afford, we found a way to build it ourselves (like the amazing ten-room doll house my mother made for me out of a giant cardboard box, complete with wallpapered walls and curtains made out of fabric scraps.) I have carried this love of all things handmade into adulthood, following in the footsteps of the creative women who have gone before me.

In a busy, driven, ever-changing world, I work to keep the art of handmade alive. My work is constantly growing and evolving, but the reason I create is always the same. To share that same feeling I used to get when I would wake up to a new pair of handmade slippers by my bed. That knowledge that someone cared enough to take the time to make something, just for me.

I currently work in my home studio part-time, looking out over my abundant gardens (or in the colder months, across the snow banks to a forest of snow-capped trees). The other part of my days are spent creating, singing, dancing, laughing, and learning with my classroom of energetic Kindergarten students. But I am not The Artisan in the Woods all by myself. All the crochet patterns in the shop are lovingly designed by my mother, Wendy. Yes, the same women who made my slippers (and mittens, and hats, and doll houses, and all manner of handmade lovelies) for all of those years. Together we celebrate the simple art of making things, by hand.

I have been crafting and making things as long as I can remember. Although I grew up in the city, I now live and work amongst the beautiful rivers, hills and trees of New Brunswick, Canada.

I have always loved working with yarn and like nothing better than to sit down with a crochet hook or knitting needles. It has been a part of my life for more than 40 years! I have shared the joy of crocheting by teaching others my favourite craft.
