My story

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓸 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓲𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓪𝓻𝓽 𝓼𝓽𝔂𝓵𝓮?

My name is Fanny Dallaire and I make unique fused glass creations. Each piece I make is unique and many hours are spent in the creation of each piece.

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓭𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓭𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓬𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰?

All of my creating is done in my home studio. Everything from my fused glass art to paintings, pottery, hand dyeing silk ribbons, crafts, etc. are all in done in a small 12’ x 12’ studio that I share with my husband who carved out a small area to produce our leather keychains and necklaces featuring my drawings. All of this “activity” in such a small space requires a ton of organization, which is not my strong point lol.

For my jewelry, I have developed a technique that is 100% glass. I specify 100% glass because often people think that my pendants are just paint on glass. But I like to compare it to a sculpture using crushed glass pieces.

I'm absolutely crazy about watercolor and oil painting. When I go camping with my family I like to treat myself and spend my mornings painting before everyone wakes up.

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝔂 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓭𝓸𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓭𝓸?

When I create it puts me in a happy place. When I get feedback from a customer who tells me that they are constantly complimented about it makes me feel great. And when I make pendants personalized from a photo that a customer sends me of their pet, and they are happy with the results…. I find it really gratifying.

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓲𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓫𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓰𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓭?

I am born in the small town of Jonquière in northern Quebec. Very early in my youth I was attracted to the world of art . When I was a toddler, I had an interest in drawing, and animals, of course. At the beginning of my adolescence I lived in the beautiful city of Montreal. I drew a lot and my first medium was the dry pastel . Often I worked late into the night on my drawings, and my art. At the time I mainly did portraits. I transitioned quickly from pastel to acrylic paint and from acrylic to oil. Then I started getting requests for wedding portraits. My dream was to become an “artist”. I already was an artist but I wanted to be able to live off of my art.

Unfortunately, at the time, many people around me said that the only artists who made money were those who had passed. So because of this preconceived idea I never studied formally in art but I continued to dabble in art as a hobby in my free time.

After meeting my wonderful husband in 2001, and having his full support, I started doing art full time again. We then moved to New Brunswick with our first child, and every Saturday, we went to the local farmer's market to sell my art to the locals and tourists. At that time I was making many stained glass creations and oil paintings, reproductions of my watercolor paintings on cards and prints. SO MUCH FUN.

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽'𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓼𝓽 𝓶𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓻𝔂 𝓸𝓯 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓬𝓱𝓲𝓵𝓭𝓱𝓸𝓸𝓭?

I was lucky to have many vacations with my family as a child. I felt very inspired, surrounded by trees, an abundance of colors and the many scents of nature.

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓳𝓸𝓫𝓼 𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓷 𝓪𝓻𝓽𝓲𝓼𝓽 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓱𝓪𝓭?

I worked with animals in a veterinary clinic and was also a pet groomer. I have also done construction\renovations for a short period with my father.

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓶𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓻𝓪𝓫𝓵𝓮 𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓹𝓸𝓷𝓼𝓮𝓼 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓱𝓪𝓭 𝓽𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓴?

My parents always believed in me. My dad once brought me to an art gallery to try to sell my paintings. I was only 14 years old. The owner didn't buy my art saying it was good but he was looking forward to my future art when I would get older. And I had never taken classes. But I was not sad. The point is that my dad had such confidence in my art that he brought me all the way there. That made me really happy and helped me pursue my dreams .

❀ 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓲𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓭𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓶 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓳𝓮𝓬𝓽?

To design and build a bi-generation home for my family. To be surrounded by my husband and my kids in a work space that can accommodate all of us…so we can all create in unison.

❀ 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓽𝓲𝓼𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓪𝓭𝓶𝓲𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓶𝓸𝓼𝓽?

Norman Rockwell is my favorite of all ! His paintings full of feeling and hyper realism are wonderful. I really admire his work.

❀ 𝓖𝓲𝓿𝓮 𝓾𝓼 𝓪 𝓫𝓲𝓽 𝓶𝓸𝓻𝓮 𝓱𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂 𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓔𝓽𝓼𝔂 𝓳𝓸𝓾𝓻𝓷𝓮𝔂?

In 2006 I had been doing stained glass for a few years when I bought my first glass fusing kiln. I quickly fell in love with fusing. In 2008 my husband discovered Etsy and I opened my first shop. Thanks to Etsy I am fortunate to have been able to reach thousands of wonderful customers all over the world with my art.
