I loved the way this turned out. My initials look terrific and the cards easily slide in and out. Great buy!

About

Reviving Hand Craftsmanship in Leather and Art

All of our designs are crafted by hand, tooled and carved by hand, made by hand... nothing is "cookie cutter" about what we do. We are trying to revamp the leather goods industry one step at a time. The designs we use are not your usual tooled leather designs that you would see. Our designs are inspired by Traditional Celtic knot patterns, Japanese art, Tattoo art and the ever popular Steampunk movement. We try to use a mixture of various materials not usually seen with leather as well. We are continuously adding new designs and also do commissioned pieces. Let us know if there is something you would like to see or a specific design you would like- we can use your own designs such as company logos, band names/logos, text, patterns, you name it! All of our leather goods and paintings are original artwork by Mike Armstrong.

Mike Armstrong founded Artrix Leather and Fine Art to revive the art of hand craftsmanship in the leather goods industry. The designs are inspired from his celtic heritage and love for the great Japanese and Impressionist artists. Mike learned at a young age from his mother and aunt about color theory, basics in drawing, painting, perspective, shading. As a child he also gained an interest in leather tooling from his grandfather. By 13, Mike started corresponding across country with a distant relative and famous calligrapher Elaine Frost, learning the art of calligraphy. Being surrounded by so many artists and forms of art, he decided to pursue a career in art. He studied at Fullerton College and California State University Fullerton with a main emphasis in graphic design. He has since worked freelance in the graphic design industry as an illustrator, logo designer, and fashion designer. For a number of years, he also worked in the art and framing business. All of this support, learning, and experimentation is the reason Artrix is here today!

In his leather work, Mike's designs are completely hand carved, hand tooled, hand sewn, rivets are set by hand... everything is done by hand. You won't find anything cookie cutter or prefabricated about our work! While we understand that there are quicker ways to do things in this wonderful age of technology with lasers, die cuts, industrial sewing machines and such, it is our sole purpose to bring you a product that is made the old fashioned way- by hand. It is this mission of ours that keeps each and every piece so unique and truly a work of art.

In his paintings, Mike is inspired in much the same way as his leather work. No two pieces are intended to be alike. The styles can vary from impressionist and painterly to cubist, deconstructed and abstract. Mike is always trying to use new techniques, styles, subject matter, color schemes, and mediums to make each and every piece truly unique. The themes can be calming landscapes, brilliantly colored semi-abstracts, bold still life images, or figure paintings... from pen and ink, to watercolor, to acrylic, to mixed media, Mike is always testing the limits and trying something new.

We hope you enjoy our line of products and we can continue to bring you new and exciting products!

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

We absolutely do custom orders! Just let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to make it for you. Make sure on leather items to give all the details- color, size, shape and if you want tooling, please give us as much detail or send a photo in jpg, pdf, tif, or gif

How do I know what size hat to order?

We can custom make your leather hat based off of several different methods- 1. Simply measure the circumference of your head and leave a note in the comments box when ordering. This can be in either centimeters, millimeters or inches. 2. If you know your standard hat size leave in the comments when ordering 3. Use standard Alpha numeric sizing ( standard hat size 6 3/4 = small, 7- 7 1/8 = medium, 7 1/4- 7 3/8 = large, etc.)
When in doubt, just give us the exact circumference in the comments- we actually prefer this as it is much more exact

What is tooling?

Tooling is the carved and/or stamped pattern in your leather item we are making for you. This can be done with almost any image you would like. You provide the image and we can most likely put it on the leather.
