ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!? Purchased a set of the hammered ring and the opal stacking ring and am absolutely in love. I also bought a set for my mother for xmas, but not sure I can wait that long - these rings beg to be worn at all times!?? The artist was able to size my mom's set at a quarter size, so I know it'll fit perfectly, and the rings came beautifully packed in gift boxes and ribbon - ready for gifting. Thank you so much for an awesome Etsy experience. I will definitely be back.

The necklace is the perfect size; not too big, but large enough for the exquisite details in Heather's work to be shown. It has enough weight to keep it from flipping over, but isn't heavy. It arrived within 3 days of ordering it! Now we're hoping Heather makes the my daughter's wedding rings!

I love the contrast in this photo between the colors and textures!
Did you know that each of my pieces are hand sculpted and that I can make similar designs in custom sizes? Yep, it's true! All you have to do is contact me. :)
This pendant was inspired by the soft calm waves and my favorite beach days spent at Lanikai Beach. ocean
It has such an elegant horizontal flow. The aquamarine adds a beautiful touch of color & sparkle which reminds me of the sun kissing the blue waves. sparkling_heart
"Thank you again for the wonderful gift of your art. The lotus ring is so beautiful & fitting to the love between me & Lotus."
This is the custom e-ring I made for this lovely couple! It was such a wonderful surprise to get a thank you note from them!

About

The Mitsuro Process

Heather has studied the mitsuro technique for nine years, perfecting her recipe and learning to bring out the natural beauty of the material to form wearable art and jewelry. Mitsuro is a rare 1,300 year old Japanese blended wax technique that creates organic designs with beautiful striations.

Since it is not commercially available, the process begins by cooking specific ratios of materials together to create the mitsuro wax. After cooling, the wax is heated to body temperature and hand manipulated by pulling, twisting, and folding. During this process, delicate striations, called hikime, are created in the mitsuro wax to lend to the organic shapes and nature inspired designs that Heather Scott utilizes in her sculptural wearable art jewelry.

Accentuation of the striations and textures are created during the finishing process by patination and selective polishing after the pieces are cast into silver or gold. This technique adds a striking contrast in the fine contours of Heather’s works.

Hi, my name is Heather Scott. I was born in San Mateo, California. When I was 2 my family moved to the foothills of California where I grew up hiking, playing outdoors, and making art. In high school, I wanted to learn how to paint with watercolors, my art teacher at the time gave me a watercolor kit and told me to paint something so we could get an idea of my skills. With that painting I placed second in the California State Fair that year. With my passion for art growing, I traveled to the island of O’ahu to pursue my BA in Studio Art from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. When I was in college I was looking through one of my professor’s old books and found a small chapter on a technique called Mitsuro that really spoke to me. I asked my professor if he could teach me the technique in the book and he said, “I don’t know what that is. Hopefully I’ll still be able to pass you at the end of the semester.” The book was loosely translated from Japanese, which meant I had to guess much of what the authors were explaining in the book. After much experimentation, I got it! After college I returned to the Sacramento area. I brought back with me my BA in studio art and a fondness for island beauty and threw myself into the creative process creating drawings, paintings, and continuing to experiment with Mitsuro. It took me about five years to create the Mitsuro formula that I use in my Mitsuro jewelry pieces today. This formula is unique to me and the pieces that I create with it. I continue to create new works, in the form of jewelry and wall art, exploring the beauty of line in the world around us.
