I ordered seven pairs of shoes for my wedding in September. I gave Artsy Toes an email with ideas, vague, for each pair of shoes. There was a shipping issue with the shoes, and she personally went and bought the shoes to make sure they ended up here on time! I LOVE my Dr. Who Shoes...they are beautiful and great quality! I wish I could give this six stars!

Back in January 2013, I saw my friend Mike “the girl” Legenthal drawing on a pair of shoes with some markers. They were about 2/3 covered, and they looked absolutely amazing! After talking a bit about doing the same to a pair of my shoes, I finally handed them over to her at Steel City Blues in March. The shoes were a simple, cheap pair of Ked-like shoes that I picked up for about $10 while living in Taiwan a few years ago. A couple months later, Mike and I met at All Balboa Weekend where she debuted my new shoes – now the most amazing pair of shoes I have ever owned.

nThe photo speaks for itself, so I don’t need to go on and on about how amazing these things look and how much of a creative genius Mike is, but I do want to mention something that makes these shoes particularly special to me, and that is that these shoes are very much a customized depiction of things that are important to me. These beauties were a collaborative work – I gave ideas and some inspiration, and Mike brought them to life in ways I never would have thought. Just to give an idea of what I mean, this is the original message I sent Mike when we started thinking of ideas for the shoes:
nIf I can have any input into the design, I have only two things off the top of my head that I think would be cool. One is the old Savoy Ballroom logo and the other is ‘Swing Dancing” in Chinese characters: 搖擺舞。Two big parts of my life: dancing and Chinese. What do you think?
    n
nThe only other thing we talked about was a color theme, and I suggested a simple black and white idea, giving a reference to doodles I often make. So that was it – three ideas: The Savoy Ballroom logo, “Swing Dancing” in Chinese, and black and white. All these things are very much related and important to me, and I couldn’t be happier with how the shoes turned out. I’ve included a few more photos, but they really don’t do the shoes the justice they deserve. One of the most interesting features is that Mike used a rather florescent white marker for the dots on the “SAVOY” logo, which s
