Announcement    Willamette Valley-based folk artist Ellen Zook Osborn creates nativity figures & other fun stuff that celebrate her roots in the American Southwest & the farm country of Polk County, Oregon.

--- Welcome to my Etsy shop! I have been making little terra cotta pottery nativities for almost 50 years (yikes!) and never seem to get tired of playing with mud.

--- Each tiny pottery sculpture is an original design & made completely by hand by me. The terracotta figures are kiln-fired, hand painted and then finished with a beeswax sealer.

Little Lumps of Mud that Bring a Smile

Ash Creek Nativities originated in 1974 in Flagstaff, AZ as First Christmas. Steve and Ellen's families have strong Arizona connections to Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott & New River, AZ.

In 2019, due to health issues in the family, Ash Creek Nativities is operating again in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon. The family homestead backs up to the middle fork of Ash Creek in Polk County. Ellen is delighted to be able to wrangle four little grand daughters & get to know the wee fairy folk that inhabit the area....along with mermaids & unicorns, of course!

Ellen was born in Amish country in Iowa and spent much of her childhood rambling the backcountry of the American Southwest, including an amazing summer living at Seton Village near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Her whimsical folk art pottery figures have helped hundreds of folks celebrate the simple wonder of God's love at Christmas in homes & collections, including the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.

Will I receive the actual folk art in the photos?

Beginning in 2018 each Ash Creek Nativity figure, designed and handmade by the artist, will be created to be interchangeable with other sets. Please allow for slight individual differences from the piece in the photos.

Can I have the nativity sent directly as a gift?

Absolutely. I love being able to do this with gifts I purchase myself. Your crèches will be gift wrapped in an all natural burlap, kraft paper, raffia theme with a gift card. If you'd like to add a special message, let me know. Many folks buy multiple sets as gifts.

Are Ash Creek Nativities safe for children?

We love seeing families start the tradition of including a nativity in their Christmas celebrations. Although not toys, I try to make sure this is kid-friendly folk art. The paint and hand rubbed beeswax finish are non toxic.
