About

Cut it Apart, Sew it Together

Up-cycling and making art out of reclaimed materials is something I have been doing for all of my life. I love it because every piece tells a story and uses things that would have been discarded to make something beautiful. It's fun to see how interesting each piece comes out and it feels good to give something a new awesome life to live! I have done a lot of collaging with things I keep, and now I love finding interesting materials and collaging them together into pieces of art you can wear!

Before AAY, I also sold knitted items, paintings and other works of art. Sewing up-cycled clothing is now my main artistic pursuit. Finding interesting materials to work with, making up new designs, and sewing them together into new beautiful things is something I put my heart into everyday. It makes me very happy to have an outlet for my work to go out into the world so I can keep doing what I love. Thank you to everyone who has supported me in being creative and everyone who has enjoyed the things I make!

Every piece is a unique design. I go on material finding safaris and work intuitively on each piece based on what I discover. If you would like to make a custom order for something in the shop, if materials are available it may be possible to make something similar to the original item, or something with the same type of materials or elements. The materials will usually decide what can be reproduced and to what degree. Ask and we can work out the details of the piece. Look at the shop policies for more information on custom orders.

Askew As You also sells through The White Rabbit, a multi-vendor shop in Storrs Connecticut that features Antique and Vintage, Jewelry, Artisan, Primitives, Collectibles and Oddities. Up-cycling was a natural progression from the collections of misfit items Ally has always kept. She creates incessantly - sewing, knitting, painting, collaging wherever she goes. She also writes zines, draws souls, and reads tarot cards.

You my pay for your order by Pay Pal, credit, debit, and Etsy gift cards.
If you want to cancel a transaction before it is shipped, you have until the order is shipped to request a refund.
Shipping
Orders will be sent Priority USPS. The difference in shipping cost if you want rush or confirmation can be payed through Pay Pal upon request. I do not set shipping cost to change when there is more than one Item on the listing because I have items of many different weights. If you order more than one item, I will refund some of the shipping cost to reflect the amount of shipping and handling that is required to send the items through Pay Pal.
Refunds and Exchanges
An item can be returned within 20 days after received if the item is not damaged and the buyer pays return shipping. The sooner the better please. The original sale price of the item will be reimbursed upon arrival of the undamaged returned item (minus the shipping cost) through Pay Pal.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders are welcome! If there is something in the shop that you would like made to different specifications or with other measurements, send a message or use the "Request Custom Order" option at the bottom of the page, and it may be possible to make something similar. Unless there is already a listing for a custom order with a price, the price will be quoted after the details and measurements have been discussed.

If an item doesn't fit, or if there is something the buyer wants changed upon receiving the item it may be possible to return it for alterations. There may be a fee based on labor and materials needed for the alterations. The buyer will pay the shipping cost to return the item and the altered item will be sent back with free shipping.

If you want to hold an item, you can pay a holding fee of 30% of the item price through Pay Pal and the listing will be taken down and the item will be set aside for you for one week. If you do not purchase the item, it will be re-listed and you will not be refunded the holding fee. If you purchase the item, you will be refunded the holding fee though Pay Pal.
