I cannot say enough good things about Mimi and her shop! I found the absolute most perfect dress to wear on my wedding day here. The photos, description, and measurements were totally accurate and left nothing to have questions about. Mimi was super helpful and friendly during the whole buying and shipping process, following the package tracking almost more carefully than I was to ensure it arrived safely. I was nervous about ordering my dress online, not only because I couldn't see it first but also because of the impersonal-ness about it, but Mimi went out of her way to make it special. The dress was packaged very carefully and beautifully and she even included a sweet handwritten letter. I'm so thrilled to have found such a beautiful and unique dress. Thank you!! xx

About

***It's all because I wanted a simple, elegant wedding dress!***

My true love for vintage bridal emerged when I got engaged. As I tried on bridal dresses in all the regular bridal salons, I noticed that none of them had the simple, elegant design that I was seeking. And most of them made me feel like an overgrown marshmallow puff. They just weren't me. Then, one day as I was wandering around an antique shop, I happened upon a rack of gorgeous vintage bridal gowns from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. I couldn't believe my eyes! These were the unique, elegant designs that I had longed to get married in ~ each one a more amazing work of art than the next. I grabbed a gorgeous white velvet gown from the 1960's and happily traipsed down the aisle.

It was this experience that prompted me to open a small vintage bridal salon in San Diego's Mission Hills neighborhood called A State of the Union, as I heard from other women that they desired a more unique look on their wedding day, too.

After moving to the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area and working as a Bridal Consultant in San Francisco's largest bridal salon, learning as much as I could about the bridal industry, my passion for vintage bridal went into overdrive. With the emergence of Etsy, I've found that this is the perfect avenue to provide other brides with elegant, one-of-a-kind vintage bridal gowns and accessories.

If you're in the San Francisco Bay area, or planning a trip here, reach out and let me know. I've opened a {secret} wedding cottage where you can try on our gorgeous dresses!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Spread the Love!

Frequently asked questions

How do you restore your vintage bridal gowns?

I go over each gown with a keen eye to look for signs of wear. Then, your gown is either soaked in a non-toxic cleaning solution or spot cleaned. Every square inch of your gown is inspected for signs of wear and distress. Any loose beading, seams or other areas are tightened and secured.

If I do not clean a gown, I note it in the listing and usually this means that it should be professionally dry cleaned. Your gown is then stored in a clean, non-smoking studio until it is shipped to your door.

I'm sort of a perfectionist when it comes to this process, so you needn't worry about any surprises. Plus, my gowns are backed by my 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If you are not 100% in love with your dress, just return it to me (see policies).

What’s the best way to take my measurements?

To make you more comfortable buying your vintage bridal gown, take your measurements, as follows:

The ABC’s of Measuring

A - Bust - Measure the bust at the fullest part. Measure all around the body (total circumference).

B - Waist - Measure the waist where the body bends. It helps to bend side to side to identify exactly where to measure.

C - Hip - Measure the hips at the fullest part, usually around the seat.

Note: The measurements above are the most important ones for measuring for your wedding dress, but I often add others to ensure that your dress fits you.

What if my vintage gown doesn't fit once I try it on?

I'm a big believer in having a flexible return policy. If you're not happy, I'm not happy. As long as you strictly abide by my return deadlines (return within 7 days of receipt), I will refund you your purchase amount, less shipping costs. If the item has been damaged or altered in any way, we'll have to have a chat.

Why should I buy a vintage wedding dress?

It’s Unique: No one else is going to have the same wedding dress as you. Buying vintage ensures your dress will be entirely unique to you!

It’s Sustainable: You are being green when you buy vintage because you are buying more local (not overseas) and up-cycling fabrics and materials that decrease the demand for raw materials.

It’s Made in the USA: Our vintage gowns are usually made in the USA (not overseas) and often have the union label.

It’s Fun: You are probably a fun and creative person if you’re considering wearing a vintage gown. It’s fun to wear fashion from a different era!
