This necklace is even more beautiful in person. Couldn't be more pleased! Nicely packaged and quickly shipped. Thank you!

What a beautiful necklace! The opal is so colorful and high-quality - much prettier than the photos could show. I had some questions before purchasing and the seller was very responsive and accommodating.

ASTERrisk's Story

Several years ago a friend of mine invited me to take a jewelry class with her. I have always liked to make things with my hands, but up until then, the idea that a person could make their own jewelry had never entered my mind! The class fell through, but I was intrigued. So I bought some beading magazines and watched some tutorials online, and I was hooked! For several years I made jewelry just for fun and for gifts. But I love to learn new techniques, and that always requires new tools and materials, so in 2009 I started my business in order to support this addiction!

I named my business ASTERrisk for a couple of reasons. The ASTER comes from my name, "A" for Alisa, and "STER" for Webster. I added the "risk" because I was a little nervous about this new venture, and also because it made a catchy name, with a logo you can find right on your keyboard!

It all began with...

....beading and wirewrapping. It's so fun shopping for beads! I especially love gemstones, but there are just so many beads out there, from crystal, to glass lampwork, to bone and acrylic. But, I'm easily bored, and I wanted more.

So I included...

...PMC. My husband bought me a PMC (Precious Metal Clay) kit for my birthday one year. What a nice guy! I'd had my eye on PMC for quite a while, and I couldn't wait to play with it! Precious Metal Clay is made up of fine metal dust (I usually use silver) mixed with an organic binder to make a soft clay. You can form it into whatever shape you want, dry it, and fire it either in a kiln or with a torch. Then you polish it up, and you've got fine silver, which is 99.9% pure silver, as opposed to sterling silver which is 92.5% pure. Metal clay also comes in gold, bronze, copper, and even steel.

And most recently...

...I've begun playing with sheet metal. I mostly use sterling silver, but I love copper too. It's fun, because you can get a whole different look with sheet metal versus PMC. They each have qualities the other doesn't have, so it opens up a whole new world of jewelry possibilities!

And there are so many more techniques I want to learn, I don't know how I'll find the time to learn them all! But that's ok, because once the learning stops, so does the fun.

Going through the design process does not obligate you to buy the final piece, however the fee is non-refundable. The fee will be applied to the final price of the piece.
