Absolutely beautiful item. Thank you so much. Only leaving four as comms / delivery time left me a little stressed at times as we were on a tight schedule. Lovely product though.

In an attempt to use up old stock, I've been busy making A5 sized saddle stitch journals featuring old botanical prints. Use them to doodle in, jot notes on, paint in or as a sketchbook. Would make great little scrapbooks for kids too!

About

Thanks to ETSY and my lovely customers, I get to make beautiful books everyday, something I love.

Hello there,

I’m Moneeza, a book artist based in the little village of Thornton in Bronte country, West Yorkshire, England.

I've always been a creative person and interested in making things by hand. I used to daydream about doing something creative for a living; I guess I day dreamed long enough for it to become a reality.

I learnt how to bind during the 90's when my first job was working for a family run handicraft business. I was fortunate enough to travel throughout South Asia sourcing handicrafts as part of my job. I dabbled in many crafts along the way such as hand-loom textile weaving, pottery, screen and block printed linen and stationary products. It was during this enriching period in my life that I developed a passion for making handcrafted books, which was essentially born out of my love of photography and documenting my travels. I could never find an album I liked, so began to make my own. I am very grateful for that period in my life as it taught me many life lessons as well as creative skills which are now helping me to follow my dream of making a living doing something I love.

With a lack of bookbinding classes where I lived at the time in the early 90's and with no internet, I learnt a lot of what I know by dissecting old books to see the structure that lay between the pages. I would take them apart and try to put them back together again. Then one day I met an old bookbinder in India who taught me how to bind using traditional methods. I have been binding ever since using age old techniques and some unconventional ones to give my book art a whimsical yet timeless look.

I like to make books that look like they have been around for a long time; from days of olde, time-worn pieces that can be loved and passed on. I am always learning, my skill is constantly evolving. I am here to grow as a book artist and get a buzz out of knowing people across the world are cherishing something I have made with my hands and that maybe someday they will be passed on.

I would say my style is quite eclectic, heavily influenced by my mixed English and South Asian heritage. Some days I feel drawn to create vibrant journals inspired by folk or tribal art, other times I feel an album that looks like an English country garden is where happiness dwells. I like to paint and take lots of photographs which I often use in my work as a book artist.

I started selling on Etsy in 2012 after I was made redundant from my then dreaded 9-5 job. They told me they could no longer keep me on due to a change in the business. That moment of happenstance was the best thing that happened to me as I might still have been sitting at a desk staring at spreadsheets on a screen and bookbinding only at weekends for my own pleasure. It's as if the planets had finally aligned themselves to give me that final push to get started on what I really love doing. Now I make books everyday for wonderful people all over the globe.

I am so grateful that I can work from the comfort of my home amongst my family. I have Etsy and my customers to thank for that. Without sounding corny, it really is a dream come true for me and I feel so very blessed, honestly THANK YOU!

If you have read this far, I'd like to thank you for reading my story; I hope you enjoy looking through my little shop.

Sincerely,
Moneeza
