Paper Art Jewellery With French Joie de Vivre

It all began with the famous dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. Writing my book about him and the Ballets Russes in Paris, I was fascinated by their colourful costumes and sparkling jewellery, designed by renowned avant-garde artists. Writing was one dimension, but I longed for more than a touching story: I dreamt of touching these colours with my fingers, wearing them on my neck!

Imagine paper art jewellery full of French joie de vivre, hand-crafted in unique pieces (even in my mini-series of nine no piece will be like the other). Step out from gray everyday uniformity to the stage for your own enlivened individuality!

I always hand-crafted jewellery only for myself, took lessons at a goldsmith, had some expositions. All changed, when I learned to make paper jewellery from old books. It was so exciting to give books a second life in beauty, that I wanted to dedicate my passion to others.

Paper jewellery is extremely light – so you can wear even statement necklaces in unusual formats. For better hanging qualities I love combining paper with glass or crystal from Bohemia, Japan or Venice. As a child I adored the coloured glass in the Baroque castles of my home town! I can combine your favourite materials, too, because you can even order custom-made jewellery.

The Celtic word Tetebrec means „sparkling treasure“. My studio Atelier Tetebrec brings the bright beauty and resplendence from fantasy and art into your everyday life – with French joie de vivre and chic.
Talk to me in English, French or German - I look forward to our contact!

First I loved reading books. Then I wrote books. Couldn't throw any book away and discovered paper art. Remembering workshops at a goldsmith I started with paper jewellery, translating books into jewels full of French joie de vivre and chic.

Care instructions

My paper beads are sealed against moisture. If dirty, you can wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. Then let air dry. But put off jewellery for showers or washing hands. My special sealant indeed repels water, but paperbeads don't like extreme bathing.

Jewellery generally doesn't like contact with fresh perfume + cosmetics for hair and skin. Let your hair / skin dry before.

Store your jewellery in a dark and dry place, avoiding scratches or friction by sharp objects.

Paperyarn is not varnished, but can stand humidity. Used for making carpets, the material must be strong - its colours are waterproof. You came into a heavy rain? Just dry your jewellery well flattened. When it's thoroughly dry, you can pick it in form with your fingers.

Paperbeads and paper art

are mainly upcycled from "waste": old and damaged books, newspapers, magazines, packagings. I craft all my paperbeads by hand, I don't buy cheap ones from anywhere. I also use fine artist's cardboards, handmade artist's papers and mulberry paper.

All metal pieces

are free from nickel, cadmium and lead (information from wholesaler). I'm using sterling silver or zamac from Europe, galvanized with silver or copper. Some pieces are also availible golded or gold-filled.

Other beads

keep alive traditional crafter's knowledge like handpainted wood, Bohemian and Venetian glass work or Cloisonné. Some stones and beads are recycled.

mostly used are: Bead stringing wire from Beadalon, viscose (rattail cord), leather, suedine, waxed cotton, satin et al. as in product descriptions.

The chemicals

that I use after a long research, are non-toxic and acid-free. The glue in paper jewellery even meets the strict standard EN 71-3, an European standard for children's toy safety. You will surely understand, that the process of hardening and sealing my paper art is my company secret.

Gift wrapping and packaging

My jewellery comes beautifully wrapped in handmade cardboard boxes ready for giving! Letters and packages are protectively packed for shipping.

Ocres & Pigments

are natural pigments coming from an ancient quarry in Vosges Mountains, where I collect ocre stones and sables like the miners 500 yrs ago to grind them by hand. It's a place, where legends of ancient magic meet early techniques. I also use artist's pigments for other colours.
