Hey there, my name is Sayra. I love wool! I started out in the early 90's with a handcrafted hat company. Dyeing, the straw and silk. Making pretty hats, along the way. I did many craft, and street shows, connecting with people and selling over the years. My love of color, and making led me to felting with wool. Which, turned into hand spinning yarns. Making is a true joy, I disappear into the colors and making magic.
Dyeing fiber is a language for me. I am a dye alchemist, a whisperer of colors. My colorways are strong, vibrant and full of feeling. I love the repetitive song that is dyeing fibers, carding batts and, hand painting yarns. Making fiber supplies, is a true joy!
I am a true wool enthusiast, a dedicated aficionado. I love using natural fibers, of great variety. As well as supporting small farms. I use professional acid dyes-in small quantities. I reuse my water. The dye baths are fully exhausted, I care about the planet & do not use metalized dyes. I recently read Clara Parkes 'Vanishing Fleece' which really struck a chord. I feel very proud to be among one of the tiny indie supplier...that support good quality wool from sustainable vibrant local farms. Most of my fleeces come from sheep, with names :)
We are in Oregon, where the forest meets the coast. I knit, garden, enjoying the simple aspects of nature, and walking in the woods. I love hanging out with my family, and five adopted cats. xo Sayra
