Au Coeur De La Laine: french for In the Heart of the Wool!

Yay! My shop is finally open! I’m happy that you have stopped by to check it out. I’ve been sewing for as long as I can remember and, more specifically, sewing warm wooly mittens for the last 6 or so years. Until now, I’ve been selling them at local artisan sales and a few shops around town.

Why has it taken me this long to start a shop? Good question. I hate the thought of putting something out there that I’m not entirely happy with. Over the years I’ve taken customer feedback sincerely and improved upon my mittens whenever possible. Now they are ready for bigger adventures and so am I! I hope you enjoy these mittens as much as I enjoy making them.

All my mittens are made from recycled woolen sweaters that have been felted down, making the wool thicker, warmer and cozier. Emphasis is on COZY! All the mittens are lined with new fleece for even more warmth.

Why did I name it Au Coeur De La Laine? Well, glad you asked. It's a take on the French children's song 'Au Claire de La Lune'. You've never heard the song? Check it out here:

Hi and welcome to my shop!

I have been making felted woolen mittens and other winter accessories for the last 7 years and sell them in the Montreal area at various craft sales and local stores. But now they and I are ready for bigger adventures!

For the moment, I am only selling my mittens for adults and kids online. They are all made from recycled materials – old woolen sweaters that are felted down so they become thicker, warmer and softer, reinforcement patches cut from old leather jackets so that your mittens last longer, and salvaged thread and buttons whenever possible. All items are lined with new fleece for extra warmth. My mittens have been tried and tested through many a cold Montreal winter, and no two are alike, so you’ll be sure to have a unique pair.

This is my first time selling on ETSY – please be patient as I wrap my head around all things ETSY. I want to ensure a successful shopping experience for both of us.

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)

  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Won the lottery and are moving to the tropics?? Congratulations!! Guess you won’t be needing those newly purchased mitts.

If you are really unhappy with your purchase and decide to return the item, it must be posted within 2 days of receiving it. The item must be returned unused and in its original packaging. I will refund you via PAYPAL, minus the cost of shipping and ETSY fees. You will also have to pay the cost of shipping the item back. Refunds to your PAYPAL account will be made only once I have received the item and have verified that it is in its original state.

Sizing might be a reason you would need to return and exchange a pair of mittens. So, please read the descriptions and sizes carefully! If need be, take out a ruler and measure your hand! If you still have any questions about an item, please contact me BEFORE purchasing.

For the moment, I will only be accepting PAYPAL as a method of payment. This is the most secure option for you and it allows debit and credit card payments even if you do not have a registered PAYPAL account.

If payment hasn’t cleared 3 days after purchasing an item, the order will be cancelled. If it is a special situation, please contact me before the 3 days have expired.

I will ship items within 2 business days of receiving payment.

All packages will be sent to the address provided on your ETSY receipt. Please make sure this is the correct address! I cannot be responsible for items not received due to an incorrect address.

If you want the package to be shipped to another address (ie: as a gift), please write me a note or send me a convo. I can easily gift wrap any purchases as gift packages and add a note for the recipient. Just let me know what to write!

All packages will be sent out in sturdy white rip proof envelope mailers. They are light and cheap and keep the cost of shipping down. If you would prefer that I use a small box, just let me know and I’d be happy to upgrade. Please note that the shipping cost will be higher due to the weight of the box.

All parcels within Canada will be sent via Canada Post ground mail. Canada Post shipping rates are determined by individual postal codes. To know exactly how much your shipping rate will be, send me a message with your postal code and I can get you the exact cost for shipping. Otherwise, any shipping over-charges of 1$ or more, will be refunded to you via PAYPAL. Tracking numbers are available and delivery of parcels is between 1-11 business days depending on the region.

All parcels sent to the US are sent via Canada Post within Canada and then transfer to USPS once they have cleared US customs. Although there is no tracking for US bound parcels, insurance is provided through Canada Post for all parcels. US shipping rates are a flat rate across the country and delivery can take up to 14 business days.

Please keep in mind that I cannot be responsible for the time a parcel spends at customs. Even though I ship promptly, delays can occur due to customs, mail work, weather conditions or other circumstances that are beyond my control.

I will gladly ship internationally and I can message you an exact shipping rate if you send me your country and postal code. For now I have added Europe as my only ‘EVERYWHERE ELSE’ destination, but all is possible! International customers are responsible for all duties, taxes, and other fees incurred on international parcels. Please be advised that I will NOT falsify customs documents by marking a parcel as a "gift" instead of ‘’merchandise’’. That would be considered mail fraud and a felony. Plus, I do not fancy the idea of jail time.

Doing some HOLIDAY GIFT SHOPPING? I will post holiday shipping deadlines as soon as I know them, but plan ahead and do your shopping early! I will do my best to ship promptly during the holiday season, but again, cannot be responsible for delays that are out of my control.

Additional policies and FAQs
All items are handmade by myself in my tiny studio. Every item that is listed is unique and one of a kind. Once it is sold, the listing will be removed. If you saw something that you liked (colour combinations, etc), I can see if there is something similar in my inventory and will make a new listing. Because I use old wool sweaters as my main material source, once the sweater it is cut up and the parts are sewn, that specific colour is gone!

I try to do my best in describing and photographing my items accurately. Colours you see on your monitor are not always the same as the real item. It depends on your monitor, so I cannot give you a guarantee that your monitor will display the colors as they actually appear.

Regarding CUSTOM ORDERS: For the moment I’m not taking custom orders, but if there are particular colour combinations that you are looking for, I will gladly look through my inventory and post any item that matches your request. I make a lot of mittens and am sure that I can find something you would like!

I can guarantee that all items are made in a smoke free work studio, but I cannot guarantee that they are 100% pet free. My studio is in my apartment and since I have cats that roam freely, they sometimes get in there. I do my best to keep them out, but cats are cats.
