This necklace was shipped right away and upon opening the nice purple package, I was delighted with the skilled craftmanship in how this piece was made! It is truly a piece of art that I enjoy wearing often! I will definitely recommend this artist to my friends. (and an incredible value for the amount of work and materials put into it!)

About

On a hot day in August...

The first time I ever bought beads was in 6th grade. Some of my friends had gone to shops where they allow you to create your own, and I remember thinking, why not do that at home? I still remember the drive home with my mom. She took me to Michaels and I bought multi colored beads in order to make some bracelets, and a single compartment to put them in. Not long after, my mom came to me with a great idea to make lanyards for her middle school where she worked as a nurse. I sold each one for $15, and that pretty much blew up. I had custom orders coming in daily. I remember at the time I really wanted an ipod, so I kept a printed picture of an ipod classic above my beading space, along with how many lanyards it would take to reach my goal. The ipod came within weeks, but the beading continued on. In high school, I would have friends come over and we would sit in my basement and make bracelets. In the summer, I would stay up until 4 am watching late night TV and creating. My passion exploded along with my expertise and skillset, and it got difficult to keep up with how much I was creating versus how much I was selling. I did several craft shows through out high school, along with jewelry parties at home with my mom's friends. This allowed me to create a name and brand for myself. The name August came about after looking up the word "inspiring" in a thesaurus. I thought it fit perfectly since it is also my birth month. When I entered college, the dorm life that came with forced me to take a break from my business. While I thoroughly missed spending hours at my bead table, the break allowed me to reevaluate my passion and create a new direction to set off in. Sophomore year I moved into a condo with a spacious room that allowed for my bead table, and since then I have been creating with a more matured identity. My struggle today has been differentiating myself from my market in high school, i.e. my mom's friends, to what I actually want to be creating today, my own style or niche. Most of my listed items were created years back, tailored to a specific audience. Now I am branching out and defining myself as a designer by incorporating my free spirited attitude toward life, with a touch of creative passion and many, many years of skillset and hardwork. I am also learning to incorporate my other passion, photography into my work and striving to make each photograph as a work of art in itself. This will enable the pieces to last as timeless markers in the story of August, and pave the way to the potential my brand has in years to come.
