About Me

If I had to choose one motto or adage that I live by it would be that I refuse to EVER outgrow playing dress up. Whatever the occasion, if it’s a chance to go in costume, I’ll be there with bells on! (Literally speaking, most of the time, as I’m a belly dancer!)

I’ve been designing clothing since I learned to hold a pencil at age 4. At 12, my Mother sat me down and showed me how to use a sewing machine, and I started designing and making barbie doll clothes. In my early teens I disovered the Victorian era, and was hopelessly, irrepressibly hooked.

I made gowns from whatever I had on hand, which at the time, wasn’t much. Old curtains, donated fabric, thrift shop prom gowns de-constructed – if it was pretty and had a remotely Victorian aesthetic, I could make something cool out of it! My friends and I started a high tea/historical society of sorts, and we had a ball getting together in our re-constructed finds, and playing Victorian lady for an afternoon here and there.

I started belly dancing in early adult-hood. It was then that I saw the possibilities of doing what I love for a living. With a continual market of new dancers looking for pretty things that can’t be bought in the store, I saw an opportunity, and opened an online store.

My store has evolved over the years – from Tribal style flair to Burlesque to Gothic Victorian. I love lace, and can’t seem to resist sneaking it into almost everything I make.

I live in Rhode Island with my husband and two adorable young sons. When I’m not sewing or spending quality time goofing off with family, you can find me wandering round unusual places and spaces. Steampunk meets, belly dance haflas, high teas, cosplay conventions, and drum circles are a few of my favorite activities.

Thanks for reading!

~Kristina, aka “auralynne”

I accept payment via Paypal, and thru credit card via Etsy Direct Checkout. The etsy checkout system will default to Direct Checkout, so if you wish to use Paypal, please select the "Paypal" radio button from your etsy shopping cart.

I also keep "Other" payment enabled in my shop. If you wish to pay via split payment ($2 fee) or via a Paypal invoice for the total, this is a possibility. Please contact me before checking out for instructions on using "Other" payment method.
I ship all orders via USPS. When you check out, you’ll choose between First Class Mail (if the item is a light enough weight), Priority Mail, and Priority Express Mail.

I do not ship via UPS or Fedex.

Domestic (US) Orders
- (`¯`•.,_.^._,.•`¯`) -

First Class Mail: 2-5 days
Priority Mail: 2-3 days
Express Mail: 1-2 days

I'm in Rhode Island, so if you live in or near New England, your shipping time should be near to the lower numbers listed.

International Orders
- (`¯`•.,_.^._,.•`¯`) -

First Class Mail International: Average of 2 weeks, up to 8 weeks if held up by customs
Priority Mail International: 6-10 days if not held up by customs
Priority Express International: 3-5 days if not held up by customs

International shipping times can vary greatly, and none of the above services guarantee on-time delivery. My personal experience with each of the services, is the following:

First Class International packages get delivered within 21 days, about 99% of the time.
I haven't yet seen a Priority Mail International package run later than 10 days - but I have heard that it can happen, and late packages are usually delivered only a day or so past the schedule.
I've only shipped Priority Mail Express a couple times - but I believe it should be just that much more secure than regular Priority.

I do insure ALL international packages against loss, and that insurance is included in the shipping total.

International customers please note: I am afraid that I cannot falsify customs forms. Etsy automatically marks the customs with "merchandise" when I print labels, and since I insure all packages worth over $100, I cannot declare a value other than the insured value of the package.

If you would like assistance in determining the fees associated with your package, here's a website that can help:
Refunds and Exchanges
I offer returns and exchanges on in-stock items. The item must be returned to me, unworn and undamaged, within 30 days of purchase. Buyer pays return shipping, and I refund just the item price (not the amount paid for shipping.) If you have doubts about your size, please feel free to contact me before purchasing! I'll be happy to help you determine your perfect size.

Custom Made Items
- (`¯`•.,_.^._,.•`¯`) -

I'm afraid that I cannot offer returns on custom made items. The caveat is this, however: If I make a mistake, I will consider it fully my responsibility, and fix it. Thanks to a level of perfectionism bordering on neurotic, I've been sewing things via online orders since 2006, and can count the total number of mistake related returns, on one hand, and have fingers left over. I've even caught a good number of customer mistakes (incorrect measurements) because of my policy to ask for a re-measurement when a number seems off.

My patterns and my designs are at least partially adjustible, with elastic waistbands in all skirts, waists that can be loosened or tightened with ties or corset lacing, and pattern shapes that are designed to fit multiple styles of figures. If you have concerns about fit because of an unusual body shape, please contact me before placing your order. I may want to tweak my pattern to be sure your gown fits properly.

If you receive a custom made item from me and are not pleased with the fit, my next step is to try to determine what went wrong. I'll ask you to re-measure yourself, and put the item on and take pictures. If I determine that I made a mistake, I will fix it. If we find that it was caused by incorrect measurements or a mistake on your part, I'll feel terrible, but I will have to insist that it be your responsibility.

Please be sure to measure yourself properly - and get a friend to help if at all possible. Be sure you are reading the tape from the right end, and double check if something seems off (I.E., a waist measurement larger than bust or hips).

Also, if you are measuring yourself to determine your size, my sizes run about a half to a whole size large. Sometimes a Medium in store will be a Small in my sizes, and so on.

I accept cancellations on any in-stock order that hasn't shipped yet. If I'm making you something, I can accept a cancellation as long as I haven't ordered anything yet, or started sewing your order.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make (insert picture or description here) for me?

I can’t take on any order that would require drafting a custom pattern. I’m afraid that I stay too busy with orders from my own designs!

If you aren't dead set on an exact design, and think that your concept could be made using my existing patterns, feel free to contact me. I have a fair number of pretty patterns already drafted. The range of them can be seen in my online portfolio:

How much will a custom order cost?

I charge more for custom orders, to cover extra time spent discussing details with you, custom ordering fabrics, and other tasks that aren't necessary when making something for stock. This additional charge is 5% - but please keep in mind that most of the items in my etsy shop are already sold at a discount! For example, if you want a customized version of a photoshoot sample gown (which are discounted by 10%) your price will be about 15% additional.

I waive this fee for any gown made "Exactly as pictured" - with no fabric changes, or skirt style changes, from something I've made in the past.

I want to place a custom order - what information should I send you?

To start the custom order process, please send me a message containing the following information:

1. Your approximate size, or preferably, your measurements, bust/waist/hips, and height.

2. What you wish to order.

3. When you need the item by - and if you are not in the US, your location.

4. Your budget, if applicable.

How long will it take to complete my order?

Currently, I’m moderately booked – with about 3-4 weeks of previous sewing orders to complete before I can start on new custom sewing orders.  So if you place a custom-fit order today, please plan 4 to 6 weeks plus shipping time to receive it.

If you are purchasing an item that is in stock (check the listing title for "Ready to Ship" or similar) - then I will ship within 10 days time - usually next business day. The 10 day window is mostly for "full outfit" purchases - and allows me extra time to re-stock bundled items like underskirts and bustles if necessary.

Do you offer rush orders?

Yes I do, if possible. Usually rush orders add on 15% to the cost of the item, to cover my overtime hours. Sometimes, however, I even book all possible overtime hours, so when possible, please allow plenty of time to receive your custom made order!

Do you offer order updates while I'm waiting on my custom made item?

I’m afraid that I do not usually send order updates. I haven’t yet found a way to automate the process - and you would be surprised how much time correspondence can take when my shop is busy! So I prioritize sewing over order updates, to be sure I do not run late on my custom orders.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes I do - although I never barter! My items are labor intensive to create, and my prices are based on labor costs, materials cost, and the hourly wage needed to support my family - and thus are firm. But the following discounts are figured into each listing in my shop:

In-Stock Discount - 5% off
Photoshoot Sample Discount - 10% off
Gently Used / Clearance price - 20-50% off

Full Look Discount (corset required) - additional 5% off

More information about my discounts can be found at the following page:

If I make you a custom listing, I'll include your discount(s), if you qualify. :-)

Can you do a payment plan?

I offer split payments - 50% down, then 50% plus shipping. The terms for split payments are as follows:
$300 minimum order amount.
I add on a $2 fee for this service.
I send an invoice via Paypal for the total, which allows a half payment.
The first payment is due when you place your order. When I receive it, I'll reserve your space in my schedule.
The final payment is due before I'm scheduled to start on your order.

If you need a specific amount of time to be able to make the final payment, just let me know, and I'll be happy to schedule your order accordingly.
