Announcement    For a limited time :: FREE SHIPPING (USA only) on select pairs of Avian Designs earrings! No coupon code needed.
At Avian Designs, I use upcycled materials (old leather clothes, soda & beer cans, and decorative tins) to create unique handmade eco-friendly bohemian jewelry!
So what does upcycled mean anyway? It means taking something old and repurposing it to make something new! All of the leather/suede I use comes from old jackets, pants, etc., mostly found at thrift stores. All of the aluminum comes from collected soda/water/beer cans. And all of the feathers come from either my beloved backyard chickens or from friends' birds (chickens, ducks, and a blue and gold macaw) and are collected after they naturally fall off the birds on their own (a process known as molting) -- hence being cruelty free.
Avian Designs' leather earrings double as diffuser jewelry. Simply add a drop of your favorite essential oil to the back of your upcycled leather earrings and enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy all day long!
I compost and/or recycle scraps as much as possible and primarily reuse shipping materials (which is why your padded mailer probably came from Amazon originally).

About AvianDesigns

Sales 538
On Etsy since 2016

My name is Amy and I live with my family in beautiful Colorado. My store name -- Avian Designs -- comes from a combination of my children's names and, of course, the word avian also means "relating to birds."

My shop is all about up-cycling -- using materials from an old item to make something completely new!

We have several backyard chickens that I affectionately refer to as "my girls" from whom I gather most of the feathers for my jewelry. I wait until the feathers molt (fall out naturally) and then collect them.

In addition to working with feathers, I also enjoy creating up-cycled jewelry from leather and suede clothing that I find in thrift shops, as well as soda and beer cans that friends from around the country save and give to me.

I love art and creating and enjoy putting together unique earrings.

If you have an idea for some earrings, but don't see them listed, please contact me. I'd be happy to talk with you about creating custom earrings just for you!

Care instructions

LEATHER: To keep your leather earrings looking their best, please do not wear them in the shower or while swimming.

FEATHERS: The feathers are natural and somewhat fragile, so please use care when handling them to keep them looking their best. Treat them gently and please do NOT wear them in the shower or while swimming.
If they become ruffled, simply smooth them out between your fingers.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All earrings are carefully wrapped in brown kraft paper, tied with yarn and sent either in a padded envelope or small cardboard box. Please consider reusing or recycling your box and packing materials. Thank you!

Wholesale availability

Many of my earrings are available for wholesale orders. Please contact me for details.

Custom and personalized orders

I accept custom orders. If you have an idea in mind, please contact me and we can see if it is a possibility. Also, if you see a pair of leather earrings that you like, but would prefer them in a different color, let me know. Chances are that I can do that. I look forward to working with you to create something amazing! Thank you.
