About

unique, spunky functional ceramics

I started working with clay in 2009, and I instantly fell in love. It is a wonderfully tactile and versatile medium. I've been drawn to creating since I was a child, and I have experimented with all kinds of materials, but what I love the most about ceramics is the fact that I can make every day objects into something beautiful.

The reason I make functional work is because of the relationship that develops between the user of an object, and the object itself. We all have our favorite mug, bowl, vase or plate. As we use these objects, we develop an intimacy with the piece. We come to know each curve and angle of the object, we know each drip and speckle in the glaze. It becomes part of who we are, and I cherish my role in that relationship. I love what I do, and I want you to feel that joy when you invest in one of my items. I put a little bit of me into every piece I make. The ability to create fulfills me, and makes me who I am.

I am constantly inspired by the world around me. I am always collecting, observing and exploring; looking for new inspiration to try out in the studio. My pieces are fun, bright, happy and whimsical; they fill me with joy, and hopefully they do the same for you. I'm full of ideas, if only my hands could work as quickly as my imagination!

The process is an incredibly challenging and rewarding one. My pieces are predominantly thrown on the wheel, though I do occasionally use other techniques. My vases are smoothed and sanded in every stage of the process to get a silky, smooth surface. The designs on my cups, mugs, plates and bowls are hand carved and hand painted, and I mix my own glazes, so no two objects are the same. Each piece is unique, but they are all part of a whole. They are an extension of me, and as I grow and evolve with the world around me, so do they.
