The mittens are very warm. Within a minute or two, my hands are nice and toasty. They are extremely well crafted and have that handmade with love quality about them. When I touch them, I think of all of the work Meghan has put in, meticulously deconconstructing and repurposing all of those old sweaters. It makes me happy. Her service was impeccable. My initial inquiry about a custom order was replied to almost immediately, and throughout our conversations Meghan was patient and sure to see that every aspect of the project was to my liking. The entire transaction left me feeling like I received some sort of special treatment. The worst part of it all was waiting for my package to arrive. Thanks Meghan.

These custom-ordered, (two-toned), wool socks were a perfect fit, and precious! Miss Meghan, the shop owner, was a delight to work with, especially when there was a slight glitch to iron out. With her sweet and amiable disposition, she made sure everything was 100% satisfactory. I would order from her again, knowing that she is honest and trustworthy. I could tell the care she put into knitting these socks, and I love them! Thank you, Miss Meghan!!

About

A Wool Story

The idea for A Wool Story came from a passion for all things handmade and sustainable. The more I learned about the harm to the environment that the fashion and textile industry is responsible for, the more I wanted to lead by example and raise the question: can there be another way?

By using recycled wool from reclaimed sweaters, A Wool Story provides limited-edition, handknit pieces that create no harmful environmental impact. Each piece is unique due to the limited quantity of yarn from each sweater, as well as the natural variations that arise from the process of dyeing it by hand.

Sustainability is taken into consideration in every step along the way, from the domestically sourced organic cotton sew in labels, to the handstamped recycled kraft paper hang tags, to the recycled paper mailers in which each order is sent out. Customers can feel good in A Wool Story knowing their piece was hand knit with love in a sustainable way.

Unraveling sweaters to recycle yarn requires more work and preparation than just purchasing yarn from a store, but it’s a labor of love and provides the challenge to be more creative with the materials.
