For the Love of Art
Sewing and art is rooted in many generations of my family history. Sewing is a required skill of all the women and men. I took to sewing, like a fish does to swimming in water. I have been hand sewing since I was 4 years old. I started machine sewing at 12. With that talent of sewing, I developed a love for accessory design. I've made many hair accessories, purses, and clothing items, before attending college for fashion design. There, I refined my machine and hand sewing abilities. With my love of accessories, I also learned how to make jewelry.
After college, I met my now husband and we had a daughter. Years passed, as she has grown. I went from being a stay at home mom to working full time in an office. In 2009, I left my mundane corporate job to become a full time artist, and start my Etsy business. I've never been happier.
I am an artist of many different mediums. Since becoming a
a co-editor of http://www.skulladay.blogspot.com/ with the creator Noah Scalin and two other editors, I have expanded my skills. I've made a lot of various kinds of skull artwork over the years, and post them on Thursdays for Dia de la Abby - http://skulladay.blogspot.com/search/label/abby. I'm also part of League of Space Pirates, which is a futuristic band that is the love child of Doctor Who and Depeche Mode. With our band, I get to make many props and costumes. These things give me an outlet to experiment, with what ever mediums I chose.
I decided to combine two of my favorite things I've learned over the past few years, painting and paper craft, to create jewelry. I've been making jewelry since I was a teenager, and have been honing my skills since then, challenging myself to make more complicated things.
I also have my own blog, http://craftyladyabby.blogspot.com/. I post many tutorials, store updates, crafts and fashion information.
