United We Stitch

Motherhood. Some say it’s the most important job in the world. I say that, in addition to being important, it’s difficult. And fun. And challenging. And rewarding.

Being a single mom of SIX is all of that. Actually, seven if you count this ever-growing business of mine. But why should you buy yarn from ME, of all people?

Well, because I’m awesome! I’m kidding…I’m probably my harshest critic. I created Baad Mom Yarns because this motherhood gig is hard, yo! Susie sends her kid to school every day with a carefully planned bento box for lunch. Karen happily drives her kids to and from their 400 after school activities, singing along to the latest teen pop hit. Laura is president of the PTA and prides herself in raising thousands of dollars for the school each month.

And then there’s you and me. We send our kid to school with a $5 bill for lunch and bitch every time we have to drive them to soccer practice. And the PTA?? Fuggidaboudit. Who needs all that aggravation?? Does that make us bad moms? NO! We love our children just as much as the next mother. We just like our wine and quiet time with our latest project. And we punctuate what we say with sentence enhancers (aka we curse like sailors).

I created Baad Mom Yarns for those moms who crave a community of like-minded fiber-loving moms to commiserate AND share the joys with. Stick around – I think you’ll find this is a place where YOU can find your own voice.

Do you believe in the power of yarn to transform lives? Maybe it sounds a little bit “woo woo” to say it, but I do. Dyeing yarn has changed my life – and I hope that by practicing my art, I can help inspire others.

You see, there was a time in my life when I felt like I couldn’t use my voice; dyeing yarn gave me my voice. I was able to express myself however I wanted and people liked it! I’ve been pushing those boundaries ever since, finding my voice again and again with each new colorway. I hope that knitting and crocheting with these yarns gives you the same feelings of confidence and empowerment.

Not a mom in the technical sense? That’s ok! It takes a village to raise a child and we welcome everyone who has a child in their life that is special to them, even if you didn’t push them out of your nether region.

So go ahead – grab a skein of your favorite colorway and cast on something rebellious. Something frivolous. Something that’s just for YOU.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I do not offer customs but I will dye up one of my colorways on an available base in the quantity you need. Please request a custom to let me know what you need and I will add you to my dye schedule. :)

Care instructions

I label all of my yarns with washing instructions specific for the fibers of the yarn, but a good rule of thumb for all hand dyed yarns is to hand wash items you've created in cold water and unscented wool wash or a gentle soap such as Dawn dish soap. Don't use Dawn Ultra--just the basic, boring Dawn or you'll get too many suds. Honestly, this is what I use. It's super cheap and in my experience has the least tendency to make the yarns bleed. I know wool washes smell nice but please be careful if you use a scented wool wash because they have a tendency to make yarns bleed.

Wholesale availability

Thank you for your interest in opening a wholesale account with Baad Mom Yarns!

Baad Mom Yarns is an independent woman owned yarn company specializing in rich colorways dyed with a Celtic twist, using low impact acid dyes on luxury yarns.

Increasing availability to both brick and mortar and online yarn stores for my growing company is extremely important to me. I am curating a collection of yarn stores that would be a good fit for my hand dyed yarns. Please contact me for further information on opening an account with Baad Mom Yarns.

Thanks and I look forward to working with you!

Why doesn't the yarn I received look like the picture?

The photos I use in listings are typically an example of the colorway you will receive. I always use the same recipes when replicating colorways, but due to the nature of hand dyeing and the magic of speckles, the appearance of colorways and saturation can vary. Even within the same dye batch or across different bases. This only adds to the beauty and uniqueness of your yarn. :-)

Do you really know what you're doing? How do I know your yarn won't bleed?

I've been dyeing yarn for 10 years and, after years and years of study, have perfected my techniques to ensure minimal bleeding. But it happens sometimes, especially with heavily saturated colors -- even with yarn from the "big guys"!

I only use professional grade wash fast dyes and citric acid. All yarns are soaked completely before dyeing to ensure proper dye absorption and thoroughly washed + rinsed after dyeing is complete to ensure minimal bleeding. I do my best to remove excess dye, but I still recommend washing finished projects individually with unscented wool wash and cool water. Heavily pigmented colors may still discharge a small amount of excess dye.

The tracking says my order has been delivered but I don’t have it! What does that mean?

After scanned as delivered by the USPS, I am not responsible for any lost or stolen packages. Should your tracking number indicate delivery to your address and you suspect it has been delivered to the wrong address or stolen, I suggest filing a police report, filing a claim with your post office, and asking your neighbors. I cannot replace lost or stolen items once the package has left my facility. The post office now has GPS location added to deliveries so that they can look up exactly where it was delivered. They’ll be able to help you! 😊

How does the Wish To Squish program work?

You buy the yarn and if you choose to, we’ll pop a pre-paid return envelope in with your yarn. If you're not happy with it, use the enclosed envelope to ship it back to us. We’ll give you a 100% refund--no questions asked.

Of course, if you’re already a rabid fan of our yarns and know you’ll love it just select no when checking out and we won’t send you a pre-paid envelope. We’ll save the bag and label--no waste!

There is some fine print, but it’s not too painful:

1. Yarn must not have foul odors, be washed, worked up, or wound into a cake.
2. Yarn must be received by USPS within 3 business days of receipt.
3. Refund will be issued when yarn is received by us in its original condition.
4. Available to US customers only.
