Ha! Good one!

Hello, thanks for dropping by! My name is Ashley, I live in a small little home with my husband, two little boys (The Dude - almost 6 years old and starting Grade One in September - *silently weeping* and The Babe - aka Baby Monster - 3 years old - *still weeping*), our Puggle, Georgie and cat, Ellie (aka Elektra).

When we had our first baby, I did not consider cloth diapering as a possibility...it didn't even cross my mind. And then the second baby came and when he was around 3 months old it went something like this:

Husband comes home from work and sees Wife with that crazy look in her eyes - thinks in his head - "Oh Lord what crazy idea has she got this time."

Wife - "If I told you we could save like 2 or 3 thousand dollars, what would you say?"

Husband - "Um that depends on what you say next ... cuz I'm not selling the car and biking to work for the rest of my life."

Wife - "Cloth. Diapers."

Husband - *laughs* "Good one."

Wife - "No seriously! I did the math. It totally works out. And guess what? People sell their used cloth diapers when they're done with them? Can you believe that? I mean, I never even thought...but seriously it makes so much sense...not only is it good for the environment, but you know exactly what is in a cloth diaper!! You don't even know exactly what is in disposable diapers...and I mean, I'm sure some people do, but I don't. And I don't care... I think we should do cloth diapers..." *Wife continues to babble on about all of the positives of cloth diapers and secretly reveals at the end that she already went ahead and bought some to try* hehehe.

I'll admit it, like most people who choose to cloth diaper their babes, they become a little obsessed with it. I mean there are so many pretty colours and prints, and the hype around cloth diaper brands and their reveals...it's pretty hard not to fall in love with them!

But alas, The Babe ran into some pretty sensitive skin issues (long story; not important) and almost all of the cloth diapers we had bought for him were irritating his skin in some way. We eventually tried fitted diapers with wool covers and it was so nice to see his skin starting to heal and look like regular skin again, instead of this red, itchy, rashy, hot mess (not diaper rash, I assure you). Turns out The Babe gets crazy irritated with serged edges. So I was on the hunt for fitted diapers that were turned and topstitched ONLY. Up here in Canada, where I must say, we have a pretty limited amount of choices, there really wasn't much to be found for what I felt was needed in our household.

So one day it just dawned on me...I'll make my own cloth diapers. I can pick the materials it's made of and make sure that it is fabrics that will give his skin the best chance of staying healthy and...this is a big one...and I can pick my own fabrics to go on the outside. I can pick them to be as cute or as plain as I want. How awesome is that?

Apart from cloth diapers, I just enjoy making things in general. So you may see some of my other creations in the shop every now and then.
