Bags by Stacey

I have always been a crafter. I even did some craft shows in my mid-20's. Back then, I did tole painting, and made knick-knacky things.

When pregnant with my daughter, I decided I wanted to make purses. I had this vision, and Kate Spade beat me to it!

Then my daughter was born, and almost 3 years later, my son. I finally had quit my day job, and started working in a direct sales organization. One thing was for certain, I missed creating things with my hands, and gift baskets were not cutting it!

My mom and I were in a craft store one afternoon (where else would we be?) and I saw a book for placemat purses. I wanted to give it try. My mom, being as wise as she is, reminded me that I had wanted to make bags for quite some time. I thought about it, and 10 years had passed!

I bought the supplies, and made myself a very simple bag. I got brave and showed it to friends and family, and they LOVED it! So, I was off, sewing to my hearts desire!

Once I had success with my original "placemat bags", I purchased a couple of other patterns and gave them a try. When I perfected those patterns, I stretched myself and tried something else, trying zippers, making clutches with kisslock frames (my favorite) and using snaps.

What inspires me:

Fabrics, colors, patterns, flowers, polka dots!!! I often see a fabric, and can picture it already made up in a particular style. I just can't sew as quickly as I buy fabrics! I have quite the stash that needs to be worked up!

What's in the future for Bags by Stacey:

I'd really like to expand my wedding/evening bag section, and add some coordinating ring bearer's pillows.

I also have a great idea for a clutch that you don't see very often. I'd love to have some uninterrupted time, to make a couple prototypes and see what happens.

I've got great ideas for new bag styles and clutches, and can't wait to get started on them all!

Have fun browsing, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!

I am a wife, mother of 2, and a self-taught sewer. I enjoy trying different fabrics and bag styles, and I can't wait for some free time to create my own, original designs! I LOVE to see someone's face light up when they see one of my bags.
