Cute, but not noisy enough, and the threads around the dolls neck came out easily, which is a hazard for the baby, who wanted to eat them. Very cute concept, but needs a little adjustment. Thank you.

Even cuter in real life. Very reasonably priced, too. I did not want to part with this little guy, but alas, he was a gift. I will be buying from Ballard Sock Critters again!

A Life of Its Own

I resisted domesticity my entire life. Cooking? Forget it. Sewing? You're crazy.

Then, while shopping at a flea market as a young adult, I stumbled upon my first old handmade sock monkey. Its rattiness was such a testament of its preciousness to a former owner. It had a personality all its own. I was smitten.

I ended up voraciously collecting sock monkeys, rather than making them, at the start. Knowing my obsession, my sister bought me a sock-monkey making kit from our local PBS store. (Yeah, they have the cool gifts.) I made it immediately and she made one too. When she finished, I could tell it was hers. It reminded me of her in some weird way. I felt mine had some of my personality too.

Years and years later I had my first child and decided to try making another monkey -- this time with my newborn child in mind. The process and the result were beyond my expectations. Since then, I've made lots of sock monkeys for friends and relatives. It's such a rewarding experience and a necessary creative outlet for me.

Friends encouraged me to start an Etsy store after I set up a table at my work's "staff craft fair." I'm glad I did.

I guess sewing isn't as bad as I thought.

As a young adult, I fell in love with sock monkeys I'd find at tag sales or in antique malls. The creativity and devotion each creator used in making them was inspiring. I started making them for friends and family and have now expanded my sock critter family to include other animals and baby rattles.

Shipping is in addition to the price of the item. I ship via USPS via parcel post (sock monkeys; cheapest rate) or at the first class rate (smaller items).
