About

Sweet and Solace, The Balm + Honey Story

Do you yearn for a calm, simple home-life? You know:
vegetable rows,
handknit cloths on the clothesline,
flickering beeswax candles,
pots of homemade herb salve,
a screen door that opens to a front porch,
garden roses on the piano?
If so, you're among friends. Because that's the home-life I want to share with you.

I get it: you're busy. And maybe you're yearning for a more authentic, back-to-real-things life. Maybe you're seeking out natural, real products... or itching for more of the unique, handmade, old-fashioned things our grandparents enjoyed. If so, I'm glad we've found each other. Let me introduce you to Balm + Honey.

Balm + Honey comes from a verse in the Bible- Genesis 43:11- where a family facing difficult times decides to pack "a little balm and a little honey" as a gift. That grabbed me, so this small business was born out of a heart-aching yearn for tactile, simple, real products I could share, made out of things I can pronounce, from things from America. The seeds for Balm + Honey were planted in 2004, when I left my life as a CBS News reporter and landed in the Texas Piney Woods. I began gardening, then knitting, to quiet my life. In 2009, Balm + Honey came about to offer folks natural, handmade goods to add a bit of sweet and solace to our homes. And hearts.

Every balm from Balm + Honey is handmade in small batches with raw honey, beeswax, and propolis from our naturally-kept hives. No fake mess. No artificial junk. No outsourcing or cutting corners. We use these balms, too. We slather them on our sweet littles and rub them into our grandmother’s hands. 💛

Catch more of the story or say hello by visiting my blog at: www.mymessythrillinglife.com. Until then, thanks for stopping by. Your interest and support means the world. <3 -Brin

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQs:

Q: Do you accept custom orders?
A: Generally no... although there are a few exceptions. There are times I am able to accommodate large or custom orders. If you are interested, please contact the shop via Etsy conversations and I'll see what I can do!

Q: I found a cloth I like, but it sold before I could buy it. Will you offer it again?
A: Maybe! I am able to offer quality handknit items at reasonable prices by sourcing 100% cotton yarn at great prices. Sometimes I can buy a certain yarn in bulk and offer the same cloth again. Other times, the yarn is a special or seasonable buy and can't be made twice. Contact the shop via Etsy conversations if you have questions.

Q: Can I order a gift and have it sent directly to the recipient?
A: Yes! I love gift orders! Please leave a detailed Note to Seller or contact the shop via Etsy conversations with complete details and I'll take very special care of your gift!

Q: Do you provide expedited shipping?
A: Upon request, I can generally provide Priority Shipping via USPS. Please contact the shop *prior to purchase* to see if arrangements may be made. Unless agreed to prior to ordering, expedited shipping is not available at this time.

Q: What about allergies? What's your physical Shop like?
A: All products are made and stored in a smoke-free, feline-free environment at all times. I am a trained and certified Food Manager through the State of Texas, and take every precaution to ensure to that there is no contact between the product and nuts, shellfish, or common allergens. (We have allergies, too!)

Q: How do I care for my House Helper?
A; Great question! I recommend washing in cool water and line drying for best results. But let's not pretend that I don't wash mine in hot water and tumble dry often. ;)
