In the summer of 2018, my friend Doris's daughter had a baby. It wasn't the first grandchild, but it was the first of her grandchildren I was going to meet. I had just told Doris that I wished I had a hobby that didn't include the angst of songwriting or
the intensity of prose writing (the two things I do professionally and which keep me up at night - in a good way, but still). Doris responded by lending me a book about collage, which led me to making a welcome card for her new grandson out of paper I had leftover from an origami obsession. That welcome card was so much fun to make that as soon as I was done I made another one for my mother-in-law who was in hospice care 1500 miles away. She loved hers so much that I made another one...then another and another until I thought, ya know, I love doing this. I was already making cards of my photographs to raise money for our library, so making cards with my collage was an obvious next step.

I have two intentions, well, three:

1. To enjoy myself
2. To inspire others to write real letters again. You'd be surprised how meaningful an actual letter can be.
3. To support my paper habit. Your purchase is a thrill and allows me to do what I love: make things that are beautiful.

Ok, so four:
4. If you look at my collage you'll see that what I do is pretty random. I don't plan what I'm going to do, I just starting cutting and gluing to see what grows out of my choices. I hope that you, others, kids, adults, everybody, will try this at home! Go make something. It's good for the soul. Or if that's not your thing but you want to give something unique to someone you love, I'd be glad to do it for you. Just send an email and we're on our way.
