Custom shorts are awesome. So comfy and great fit. Plus they match my baby girl's pants! How fun.

Very happy with the items (great quality), however, although it shipped from Canada I was charged in American dollars plus exchange which was a surprise.

About

First Time Auntie Goes Overboard Then Opens A Shop

ABOUT ME:
I am a mother of 4 kids aged 13, 11, 2 and 7 months. I would sew for my older children when they babies but mostly I made blankets, pyjamas and summer dresses. I never thought to make them anything else as I was just learning to sew at the same time I was learning to parent. I finally became an auntie in 2012 and it gave me the opportunity to sew new and beautiful things for my sister and nephew. I can’t believe the amazing fabrics available now that weren’t 9 years ago. While I will be the first to admit I may have a slight addiction to fabric purchasing, there isn’t a cute fabric I feel good about leaving behind! It’s gone so far as to have my sister to mail me fabric I bought while visiting her and then couldn’t find locally!

THE OPENING OF A BUSINESS:
I never planned on selling my items, I really just saw myself making some things for my sister as I could send her more if I made it rather than buy it. Even though I know there is a reasonable amount of bibs and burp cloths a mother needs, I got a little carried away. So at the end of making gifts for her, I had a mound of little baby items I couldn’t reasonably send her (she already had 15 bibs, I couldn’t send her the other 10!!). I knew of a few other people expecting babies and gifted some of the pile to them. The feedback I got was so positive! Most of the recipients told me I should sell them as they loved the fabric and quality, and were getting compliments from all of their friends. As nervous as I was, my family was all supportive and continue to be so. It was my little (fabric shopping) sister who first told me about Etsy and I set up shop. I have been open on Etsy since August 2012, and have also started participating in Farmers and Christmas markets. It’s been a busy start building inventory but it allows me to continue sewing and I love the feedback and pictures of little babies wearing my stuff.

THE BEST PART:
I think the best part of starting this journey has been the support of my kids. Not all of the products I make are for babies, and they often come home from school telling me that they gave out business cards to their teachers and substitutes. They always ask to come to the market, or to help sew or give out ideas of what else I should make. I am glad they are old enough to see and remember the hard work mommy is putting into her new business. They constantly tell me they are proud of me, and that makes me so proud of them!

I am a mother of 4 kids aged 13, 11, 2 and 7 months. I work from home which allows me more time to see them, and more time to sew! I love making them special outfits and teaching my middle child (daughter) to sew on her own machine.
