Making things with my hands is the happiest work I’ve ever done.

I blame my sister; she’s an artist, and about 20 years ago she invited a bunch of us to her studio for “Happy Childhood Day.” The idea was that it’s never too late to have a happy childhood, even if we were all well into adulthood. We got to raid all of her fun, arty supplies and make whatever occurred to us. I made a goofy-looking, anatomically correct doll out of light blue terry cloth and buttons (which served as the aforementioned anatomy). That kicked open the door to creating for me...and my addiction to collecting buttons. Buttons led to brooches, buckles, beads, ribbon, trim and fabric—mostly of the vintage variety, but really the criterium was how convinced I was that I couldn’t live without it. Then the question became, “What do I *do* with all of this stuff?” And here we are. Now my goal is to give you a bit of beauty and joy by making pretty things. Enjoy the eye candy!
