Who is the Barn Cat?

I'm so glad that you've found my tiny little space on Etsy. I'm so excited to finally bring my love of creation, science, DIY, simplicity, technology and paperwork (I can really organize a 3-ring binder) to life.
Several years ago I stumbled upon a blog about soap making , and since I love to craft and DIY, I thought it was an interesting new thing to try. Then I found out I was pregnant with my first child. YAY! But probably not the best time to be playing with lye. So I dreamed and sketched and quilted baby blankets. After Kitten #1 was born, medical issues and post partum depression became my new reality and the dreams for BCC got pushed aside for a while. Then I found out I was pregnant with Kitten #2. Yay! Still not a great time to play with lye. Fast forward to Kitten #2 being 3 months old and the girls gave me a soap making class gift certificate for Christmas (Thanks husband!). That was all it took.
While I was waiting for that first batch of soap to cure I looked at all these fabulous oils and scents and started researching what else I could make. And that is where the lip balm, body balm, beard oil, and bath fizzies came in. I had to keep creating while waiting for that amazing soap to be ready to use!
So look around, ask me questions! If you see something you like but not in that shade, or you want to order in quantity or customize labels, just let me know. I love to create custom pieces for people to suit their needs.
Welcome to the Barn!

Frequently asked questions

How do I make my soap last longer?

Handmade soap is not like commercial soap, and that's a great thing! If you've never used handmade soap before, you may notice that it can disappear faster in the shower. To help with this, keep it in an elevated soap dish (some great ones are available in the shop) and is allowed to dry between uses. This will extend the life of the soap, so you can enjoy it longer!

My body balm has changed texture, how do I change it back?

Because the products from Barn Cat Creations are made without any funny chemical additives, they are a slightly more sensitive to heat and cold. If you've noticed that your body balm has changed texture slightly, don't worry, nothing at all is wrong with it! To bring back the smooth texture, simple melt the balm completely (just please don't put your metal tin in the microwave!) and then pop it in the fridge or freezer to harden quickly. The grainy texture that balms can sometimes get is from the oils and butters solidifying at different temperatures. The graininess is actually mango butter :)
