Artists At Work

We have always been artists. However, we have not always earned a living as artists.

It's one of those things that seems to happen to a lot of creative people. Artists, singers, dancers, and even those talented in the culinary arts, all have had a desire to earn a living with their art but, for a variety of reasons, have found that life took them down a different path.

Then, after retirement from "the REAL job" they decide to take a shot at that thing that had been with them all their lives. For us that "thing" was art.

In our case "the REAL job" was in broadcasting. We had been in radio since 1984 doing a number of "on-air" and "off air" tasks. Eventually we even made it to the "holy grail" of radio which is to host a morning drive show. We had that job for 17 years.

All along we found ourselves still relating more to being called "artists" than to being called "broadcasters" or "radio hosts," or even "DJs." But radio paid the bills and art seemed like something that was more of a hobby than an occupation.

Still, we made art. We did art in the evenings and on the weekends. We even painted a series off plein-air paintings to help out the local literacy council after having them on the radio show to talk about their plight to continue with their work.

Then, in January of 2020 we finally retired. We were both 65 years old and we both still felt pretty healthy so our retirement was a true "leap of faith."

Living on social security is not the best way to survive so, instead of getting back into radio, we decided to find out how "the younger generation" was using this thing called "the internet" to make money.

When we found Etsy we were giddy with excitement. To think that we could use our art skills and maybe even some of the marketing and writing skills we had developed in radio over the years to have our own business was like finding a gold mine in the potato bin in the basement.

We had been calling ourselves Robin And The Giant since 1988 and that is how the community knew us. While we were (and still are) proud of that name we really didn't want to use it for our Etsy Shop.

Well, it just so happens, that a few years earlier we were playing around with a computer app that could scramble the letters to your name and provide a list of words and phrases in an anagram. One of those anagrams was Bathing Nodine Art!

We embraced the name right away and even came up with a little logo of a young woman taking a bath in an old fashioned outdoor bathtub. The revised version of that original illustration now serves as our logo on our Etsy shop.

To wrap it up, we are now working full time as artists. We sell art in "the real world" and we have a presence on Fine Art America but it seems that Etsy has given us a true virtual store front. And we couldn't be happier about it!

Gee, I've written a lot. Thank you for taking an interest in what we are doing. Drop us a line sometime even if it is just to say "hi."

We live in Ocala, Florida. In addition to the art Robin and I recently became grandparents. Robin has developed her culinary skills and taken cooking to a new level! (NOBODY can beat Robin's: Tacos, Lasagna, Meatloaf, Salmon, and others!)

For me, when I'm not drawing or painting, I seem to find myself feeding the birds and the squirrels and then sitting in the screened-in porch and watching them eat.

My gosh. I'm carrying on TOO LONG.

Okay, thank you for everything. We hope we give you something enjoyable from your visit to our Etsy store!
