The Beginning of Beacon & Batten

Beacon & Batten home goods are designed, printed and sewn by Emily Donald, who works out of her home studio. Featuring patterns inspired by vintage textiles and wallpaper, each piece is crafted using natural materials and eco-friendly inks.

Emily graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in fashion design. After graduation she freelanced for Wovenplay, a couture childrenswear studio in Brooklyn, NY. While there, she fell in love with the screenprinting process for garments and yardage.

She and her husband recently moved back to Michigan from San Francisco where Emily worked as a designer for a childrenswear company. She longed to get back into making, not just designing, and Beacon & Batten is the realization of that desire.
