Me fascinan las joyas desde que era lo suficientemente mayor como para tocarlas. ¡Mi madre tenía piezas preciosas! Heredé bisutería de mi abuela y mi tía, ¡y así comenzó mi colección!
Cada vez que veía una joya que me gustaba, era la más cara de la exposición. Hice mis primeros pendientes en 1980 con cartón, pintura acrílica y lentejuelas. ¡Pensaba que sería más barato hacer mis propias joyas, ya que mis gustos eran tan caros!
¡No fue más barato! Compré suministros en todos los lugares a los que viajé y recorrí tiendas de segunda mano en busca de cosas que pudiera desmontar (o añadir a la colección).
Mi obsesión por las tendencias de joyería de los últimos 50 años me ha proporcionado una sólida base histórica, ¡y un gusto muy ecléctico!
No me gusta el desorden, pero me encanta combinar las cosas más extrañas. Creo que mi arte en joyería debería invitar al espectador a preguntarse: "¿Por qué demonios habrá combinado eso? ¿Y por qué se ve tan genial?".
Existe una necesidad humana primordial de vestimenta y arte corporal: tanto la joyería como la música son anteriores al lenguaje hablado, y se encuentran tesoros ocultos en prácticamente todos los yacimientos culturales primitivos (o avanzados), lo que a menudo indica estatus social y la percepción de su necesidad incluso en el más allá.
Desde los pueblos indígenas hasta los habitantes de las ciudades modernas, todos hemos usado joyas para indicar nuestro lugar en la sociedad y contar nuestra historia a nuestra manera. Las joyas hablan de gustos individuales, valores, historias, familias y nuestro pasado, con una claridad visceral que puede ilustrar más que la palabra hablada o escrita.
He nadado con alegría en la sopa primigenia del arte corporal y la autoexpresión toda mi vida; me ha atraído durante más de medio siglo. Desde que era lo suficientemente mayor como para sostener un billete de cinco dólares y mirar por encima del mostrador de una tienda de antigüedades y preguntar: "¿Tienen alguna joya vieja y rota?", he estado experimentando con construcciones más hábiles y combinaciones más curiosas.

I have been fascinated by jewelry since I was big enough to touch it. Mom had such fun pieces! I inherited costume jewelery from my grandma and my aunt, and the collecting began!
Every time I saw a piece of jewelry I wanted, it was the most expensive one displayed. I made my first pair of earrings in 1980 of cardboard, acrylic paint, and sequins. I thought it would be cheaper to make my own jewelry since my taste was so expensive!
It was NOT cheaper! I bought supplies everywhere I traveled, and haunted thrift stores for things I could take apart (or add to The Collection).
My obsession with the jewelry fashions of the last 50+ years has given me a solid historical background, and very eclectic taste!
I don't like clutter, but I do love to put the oddest things together. I think my jewelry art should invite the viewer to wonder : "Why on EARTH did she put that together? And why does it look so cool?"
There truly is a primal human need for body wear and art - both jewelry and music predate spoken language, and caches are found in virtually every primitive (or advanced) cultural sites - frequently indicative of social standing and perceived necessity of it even in the afterlife!
From indigenous folk to modern city dwellers, all of us have used jewelry to denote our place in society, and to tell our story our own way. Jewelry speaks of individual tastes, values, stories, families and our pasts, with a visceral clarity that can illustrate more than the spoken or written word.
I have been swimming joyously in the primordial soup of body art and self-expression my entire life - it has pulled at me for over half a century. Since I was big enough to clutch a 5 dollar bill and look over the counter at an antique store and say, "do you have any old broken jewelry?" I have been testing more skillful construction, and more curious pairings.
You're here because you're a kindred spirit - the vibe has sucked you in! I hope you find something here that says, "I NEED that." We all have a need to show ourselves and be understood, and our jewelry can do it even across cultural and language barriers.
