Geeky state pride! That's a thing now, I hope! I can do any state or country and cut out a heart over your favorite city. Available now in the shop (and if you're in the US, you still have a week to get in your order for on-time delivery).
And that's a wrap! This custom necklace was requested by a mom for her son at a technical college. I can make just about anything, so please inquire and I'll provide a quote and timeline.
I love these little bracelets. They're priced just right for gifting to your nerdy coworker!

About

Smart Jewelry & Accessories

Amanda Preske has been creating by hand for as long as she can remember. Gifted a box of colorful seed beads as a teenager, she taught herself how to bead weave and slowly branched out into other forms of jewelry making, including resin casting and metalsmithing.

Upon seeing the circuit boards coming from a broken computer her brother was attempting to repair, she became transfixed by the beauty and complexity found on a circuit board. This small venture into circuit board jewelry, which started back in 2007, has since blossomed into a full time business. Amanda’s work is carried in over 25 retail locations and has received national press, including a viral video produced by the Huffington Post.

Circuit Breaker Labs is intended to be a play on words and a nod to her background. Each cut into the circuit board signifies a broken circuit, so the name is quite literal. With a PhD in chemistry and a love for all things STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), the lab is where she used to synthesize nanocrystals, and is now a busy jewelry studio.

Recycled circuit boards from computers, cell phones, calculators, and office telephones have all been transformed into jewelry by Amanda. The circuit boards are sourced from places including local businesses and universities. The pieces are individually cut from the board, often using a dremel tool and tin snips. Everything is outfitted in basemetal or recycled silver settings and finished with durable epoxy resin. The resin produces a magnification effect, creating a beautiful way to view the circuit board.

Electronic waste cripples communities across the globe, especially in third world countries who receive shipments of broken electronics by the boatload. Tasked with separating toxic components, they are subjected to inhumane work environments and insufficient personal protection from those hazards. While many love Amanda’s work for its "geekiness," it also opens a dialogue about the perils of e-waste and encourages responsible recycling.

PayPal is a third party credit card processor that keeps all of your transaction information secure. You don't need your own PayPal account to use the service. If you have questions about how this works I'll be happy to assist you.

Shipping
Default shipping is first class through USPS. If you purchase more than 6 items, I will ship via priority mail. If you need a faster shipping method, just choose priority or express. If you need help, just let me know :)

I ship all made items within 3 days of purchase. Custom orders my take from 2-14 days depending on the nature of the custom item(s) and the availability of supplies.

To non-US customers: Note that I do not pay any duties, customs fees, or any other associated fees. These are the responsibility of the buyer if their country charges these types of fees. Please be aware of customs information including any fees that may be incurred on your end before purchasing. This information can be found at your local post office or on the web. It has come to my attention that for some buyers, Etsy is posting a message saying I am taking care of taxes. Unfortunately, that is not true. I do not have the authority to collect such taxes. Therefore, they are still the responsibility of the buyer to pay these taxes in order to collect your purchase at the post office. If you purchase an item not realizing the expense of duties, you are welcome to refuse the item and have it sent back to me. In that case, I will refund the cost of the item only, and only if the item is undamaged.

If the tracking indicates that your order was delivered, the item is considered delivered. Please ask neighbors, doormen, and your local post office about the whereabouts of the package (you have the tracking number) if you cannot locate it. Please notify me within five days of the delivery date for assistance.

I can do exchanges, refunds, re-dos, really- whatever you need.

Frequently asked questions

Wholesale availability

Please take a look at my wholesale page through Etsy Wholesale OR visit my website and request a linesheet: Http://CircuitBreakerLabs.com/wholesale

Care instructions

Every order comes with a care instructions card. Resin is pretty durable, but if it does get scratched, simply buff it using plastic polish or vegetable oil using a soft cloth. Handle this jewelry like your other silver jewelry. Silver can be polished to restore shine. Also, these pieces are durable enough to be cleaned in your jewelry cleaner- just don't use any chemicals on them. The jewelry is waterproof but try to sustain from prolonged water contact.

Are those real circuit boards?

Yes! I use only broken, obsolete circuit boards from computers, calculators, and cell phones. The color you see, called soldermask, is usually green for circuit boards because it's easier for manufacturers to detect defects. However, other colors are used too, which is why my jewelry comes in a rainbow of colors!

Is this jewelry safe to wear?

Absolutely! While some older circuit boards may contain heavy metals, they do not pose a threat because it's in very low concentrations and you'd have to eat them to receive exposure. Furthermore, my jewelry is encased in resin and metal so the circuit board will never actually come in contact with you. This is really important! I also do not make or sell "bare" circuit board jewelry because they are made from fiberglass, which can irritate your skin.

Custom and personalised orders

Just send me a conversation or email (CircuitBreakerLabs@gmail.com) with any project, no matter how simple or complex, and I'll get back to you with options, a timeline, and price quote. Simple requests (like if you want something with a chip on it or a longer chain) can be made in the note to seller box at checkout.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Every item will come in a gift box with a circuit board design. To conserve paper, I never include an invoice, so if it's being shipped as a gift, no worries! If you want to include a gift message, let me know what you'd like it to say in the notes to seller box, and I'll hand write it on a circuit board note card.

How does international shipping work?

Orders to Canada have a flat rate shipping fee of $7 USD and all other destinations ship for a flat rate of $9 USD. Please note that some countries impose an import tax or duty and that it is your responsibility as a buyer to pay that duty in order to receive your item(s). Please consult your local post office for information about rates so you're not surprised when you receive your item(s).

I ship everything from my studio within three working days (longer if it is a custom item) but shipping time to your destination will vary depending on a number of factors including weather and customs. While many packages will arrive within 1-2 weeks, please be prepared to wait up to 30 days before receiving your item.
