About

It's a vintage inspired "Beane" life!!

I have been involved with arts, crafts and apparel all my life. I absorbed it through my mother a seamstress, and my grandmother who was also a seamstress and very accomplished the art of crochet. I was a professional dancer for years and out of necessity taught myself how to sew. It soon became a passion! During my dance and theatre career I often found myself working in costume shops. It was this alignment, which planted the seed of inspiration for mixing vintage clothing with the glitz and glamour of the stage and theatre. Growing up my mother had a cedar chest full of clothing that she had made for me and my brothers. It is all so timeless and many of the pieces of clothing are still relevant today. It wasn't until after the birth of my little “Beane”, did my love affair for children’s clothing take shape, giving me the motivation to leave the stage and costumes behind. I reflect back to that treasured clothing my mother has kept and I think, if I want those sort of keepsakes for my daughter and son, why would other people want the same.

Hello everyone, and welcome to Beane and Company!

I have such a strong passion for all things handmade, whether it's in my home, the things I wear or handbags I carry. I love the tactile feel of textures, especially fabrics. I really like to experiment with mixing fabrics and trying different styles.

Everything you see in my shop is made to order! Any sash colors, dress colors, suit colors etc. can be changed to suit your needs. Contact me if you have any questions about how to get the color you need and options available.

Shipping
All of our items are made to order. Our turn around time is 2-4 weeks depending on how many dresses/suits you order. I usually recommend that custom order dresses/suits etc. are ordered at least 8 weeks ahead. You will be contacted with tracking #'s when your item(s) ship.
Refunds and Exchanges
Because the dresses are made to order I do not take refunds or exchanges once the dress has gone into cutting.

Please note:
Even though dresses are made to the measurements of the child and fitted as closely as possible, every child's body is different even within the same size. Some alterations may be needed to the dress. Buyer is responsible for any alterations that may be needed. We do everything we can to try and prevent this but sometimes it is still needed.
Additional policies and FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I get this suit, dress or sash in another color?
Yes! Any of our custom made items can be done in any color. We can also change just the sash color if needed. We can color match. Just send us a swatch of your own, or pantone color and we can make it happen. There is no up-charge to make a color change so when placing your order choose the "custom color option" in the pull down menu and let us know in "notes to seller" during checkout which color you would like. Or of course you can always contact us with any additional questions.

Can I add sleeves? Make a dress longer? Or make other design changes?
Yes! We can make design changes to any of our custom made items. We can add any sleeve style to any dress, or remove sleeves on an existing dress to make it sleeveless. We can also adjust hem lengths shorter or longer with a basic hem measurement supplied by you. Our motto, "If you can dream it, we can do it!" There is no up-charge to make design changes to any custom made garment. Please contact us with any design ideas or questions.

Is the sash detachable?
We do tack on all the sashes with a basic tack stitch, but all of them can be detached or removed by simply clipping that tack.

Can you size a dress up/down from the sizes listed?
Most times yes! A lot of it depends on the style and cut of the dress. We can generally size up/down a size or two from the sizes offered. If sizing up there may be an additional charge for the larger size, simply because the dress takes more fabric. See our sizing chart for measurements. Your child may measure into a size we already offer. Please contact us with any sizing concerns.

Can I return and item?
Dresses and suits that fall into our custom made section are made to order. We do not take refunds or exchanges once the garment has gone into cutting. Even though dresses are made to the measurements of the child and fitted as closely as possible, every child's body is different even within the same size. Some alterations may be needed to the dress. Buyer is responsible for any alterations that may be needed. We do everything we can to try and prevent this but sometimes it is still needed. Please see our policies page or contact us with any questions before ordering a custom garment.

Can I make changes to my dress once I've placed the order?
You can make changes if it is done before the dress or suit has gone into cutting.

How do I know what standard length is on a garment? My child is really tall, or small etc. for their age...
We do our "standard" lengths based on the standard height measurement for a particular size/age. If your child is taller or smaller than the standard height for that age let us know and we can adjust the length based on their height. For example: if the standard height for your child's size is 42" but your child is 46" we adjust the hem based on their height leaving all other measurements that same. As long as the correct height is provided to us. If you don't specify the garment defaults to the industry standard.

What if the garment doesn't look like what I was expecting?
I try to use the photography that best displays my product, however, there might be some slight color variation due to individual computer monitors etc. You can request a fabric swatch if needed. There is no charge or obligation to request a swatch.

Also, the garments on the models photographed were made to fit them. Some aspects of clothing (strap lengths, girth) etc. are impossible to adjust for every child without our team fitting them in person.

How do I take measurements to ensure proper size?
Here is a brief measurement detail that should help. As always if you have any concerns please contact us or see a professional seamstress to help with measurements.

Chest:
around the widest part of her rib cage just under the arms across the breast bone

Waist:
have your child bend to the side...where the natural bend is that is the true waist...it's usually an inch or two above the belly button. In little ones it will be very close to her chest measurement.

Back waist:
This measurement is taken down the back from the shoulder to to waist.

Hem:
Take measurement from the waist at the bend (see above) to where you want the hem to fall. Take it from the side not the front and hold the tape measure at the waist on an angle slightly away from the body. Should mimic the way a skirt will hang. Make sure they are looking straight ahead for an accurate measurement)

Please note:
I try to use the photography that best displays my product, however, there might be some slight color variation due to individual computer monitors etc. You can request a fabric swatch if needed. There is no charge or obligation to request a swatch.

Thank you!
