Because 42 Story

I had been working on my MA in Clinical Psychology when my baby sitting all fell apart and I had to withdrawal from my classes to stay with my 1 yr old daughter. I had randomly been painting shoes for my daughter and myself just as something to do during nap time because I love to paint and I love shoes and in all honesty.... I'm just not generally very good at quiet. I had a lot of people start asking me about where I got the shoes and asking for me to make them some so eventually I started this Etsy shop. It is something that I love to do and something that I am able to do while I get to stay home with my daughter! This little random thing I started doing because I needed to find something quiet has gotten me invited to be an artist at comic cons which has lead to attention from many celebrities, my art in museums, and given me the ability to travel all over the country for shows. Definitely not where I expected leaving grad school to take me!
Now I am back on my daughter is first grade so I'm back to working at Missouri State University while still keeping my Etsy and will be finishing more degrees as I go.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

The majority of what I do is completely custom work. Feel free to message me with any requests or ideas that you may have. The pricing for customization depends on the price of the base shoe (if I have to purchase it but you are also welcome to send me shoes) and the complexity of the design you would like.

Sizing details

Shoes: The sizes in all the brands that I use are very standard. You are more than welcome to go try on shoes at a store or send me shoes that you would like me to paint to make sure they fit! Let me know if you have any questions about specific brands or sizes. Vans work well if you need wide shoes. My orders are usually for Vans, Converse, and Toms but definitely not limited to those brands! You are more than welcome to ask me about whatever brands you would prefer and I can let you know if they are paintable and pricing. I can paint most materials.

Care instructions

Shoes: Spot clean when needed. If you need to wash them you can send them through the washing machine then let them air dry. This is the case for most of the shoes. As long as the base shoe can handle being washed the paint will be fine (Vans, Converse, etc are fine). If the base shoe cannot be washed than you will need to just spot clean the shoes.

In case it isn't obvious... do not bleach.

Cups: They are sealed with a top rack dishwasher safe sealant. I do still suggest handwashing them for longevity.
