Great item for a beginner like me. Easy to use, small enough to take with me and fun to use, to be creative.
Fiber art + technology
My work is a unique combination of geekiness: traditional textile techniques, like sewing and weaving; high tech elements including laser cutting and digital fabric printing; and lots of puns. I am the co-author of the newly released "The Spoonflower Handbook", which is a how-to guide to designing your own fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap. Everything you see in my shop is designed by me, from the printed graphics to the one-of-a-kind fabrics to the designs that are laser cut.
I work with Spoonflower (digital fabric printing) and Ponoko (laser cutting) to help me produce my pieces, because their services let me access professional equipment and materials that I couldn't do on my own. I consider them my production partners. I design and create "on-demand" the custom supplies I need and then I complete all of the sewing, finishing and assembly myself.
I live in Minneapolis with my husband and two black labs. Art is my full time job, whether I am teaching kids, exhibiting my work, collaborating with other artists, writing a tutorial or working with arts organizations in my community. It's never the same job two days in a row and that's pretty cool. I teach classes throughout the country on digital fabric design, technology, and nearly any kind of fiber art technique. You can find me teaching master classes at Arrowmont (TN), Spoonflower (NC) and Convergence/HGA (WI) coming up in 2016. I worked for 11 years as the director of education at an art center that specializes in fiber art (www.textilecentermn.org) and there I wrote curriculum, coordinated classes and trained other artists and teachers. I am a member of the 2016 Etsy Sellers Advisory Board.

Custom and personalized orders
I am happy to do custom sets of buttons for your weaving group, guild or retreat. Convo me with your ideas and we can work out details and prices to create a custom listing for you.
Where do you get your fabrics?
I design all of my fabrics and have them digitally printed. The patterns that I create are digital files. They start out as a photograph, illustration or a piece of handmade art. A giant ink jet printer then digitally prints my design onto many different fabrics. I work with a company called Spoonflower to do the printing, because they enable me to work with large professional quality printers that I couldn’t otherwise have access to.
Yes. Absolutely. Contact me and we can talk about the details.
