Announcement    Matthew Monthei is a DC-area artist who explores masculinity and sexuality with needle and thread.

What started as cheeky cross stitched designs about beards and boners to show off on Tumblr in 2011 quickly led to an Etsy shop, Beefcake Craft Arcade (formerly Man Junk). Played more for amusement than anything else, these stitches focus on PG-13(ish) self-aware, sometimes spastic, often self-deprecating-disguised-as-sexy “masculine” topics presented in a traditionally feminine craft, stitched by a fellow of the male persuasion.

Most of his art energy is spent on stitched mixed media that explore these themes on a far deeper level and include works on the history of gay porn films, the psychology and emotional drive behind sharing nudes in the modern iPhone age, and stitching salacious wear onto traditionally hypermasculine vintage gay erotica. These can be seen on BeefcakeCraftArcade.com.

Hope you get a kick out of my stuff!

Love and boners,
Matthew
