I use unique handcrafted materials or earth elements with global influences. Collecting rare finds from around the world, I create feminine pieces that mingle cohesive design aesthetic with stones, charms, shells, glass or crystals that speak to your soul. Cornicello is the Italian good luck charm in the shape of a horn that is believed to 'ward off the evil eye'... and that is where I started. As an artist (painter) and lover of Italy and Italian culture, I found the name to be a perfect fit for my shop on Etsy as I try to integrate art forms with wearable objects, or natural wood display pieces for jewelry.

September 2018: I have been working on updating my shop to 'all handmade' metal work, including rings. From September - on I will be adding new metal work items each week which are all handmade. I use primarily turquoise for most of my rings, earrings and pendants.

I MAY also be adding some fine art prints starting in October of 2018.

Since 2015, I have donated $1.00 of every sale to Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Please read about Randy and his amazing quest to rescue strays (cats and dogs) in the St. Louis area. (www.strayrescue.org)

About

Cornicello is a store that creates wearable art with meaning...

My love of art has been dominant throughout my life, even though I was a nurse for 10 years after graduating from the University of Kansas. I feel this life experience makes me well rounded now-as I've seen much joy and heartache.

Shortly after graduation, I enrolled in art classes, eventually finding my way to Fontbonne University where I studied with some of the best instruction in the city and worked alongside some of the most talented students I've ever known. Even today, they still inspire me.

My growth as a painter and artist at Fontbonne surpassed my goals, as I worked very hard to keep up with the extreme talent that was born there, and to be the type of artist that can think conceptually while rendering objects and figures in the traditional manner. I received my M.F.A. in 2001.

From there, I painted for quite some time until a series of events brought me an opportunity to create jewelry. During this time also, I had two little children, fairly close together, and found that creating jewelry was more manageable from my home, for the time being.

With jewelry making and designing, I found that there was a lot of crossover from my years as a painter. There is a lot to consider in this completely different medium and also the complexities of running a business. There have been many good surprises, and much opportunity for learning. I discovered that this medium allows me to create faster, and think in three dimensions, rather than the preferred two dimensional works I have done in the past.

I am challenged in new ways as I have to try to keep up with trends, and the 'fashion industry', and then put my own creative spin on each individual piece. THIS concept is completely foreign to me.

Working with jewelry lets me explore color interactions (which is a focus of mine in my 2d work), and the interactions of shapes, and symmetry in wearable art. I love contrasts, with delicate flow, and things that are feminine in nature. Also, I find that the work is more accessible to the general population, rather than a small group of wealthy individuals.

A new aesthetic has emerged, and I find myself very inspired by the natural work I am seeing on so many lovely etsy shops- and I feel that I can additionally bring work to others with earth elements... work that touches the soul of the viewer, the patron, the yoga lover, or the unique individual. I tend to stay away from anything that has a manufactured or glitzy feel to it.

Now that I have established a unique store on Etsy, I am returning to painting, slowly but surely. Being here, has been a huge learning experience, and I finally feel like I have some of the complexities in order. I try to post new things each week.

I still strive to make things with excellent craftsmanship and with heart. I try to create wearable pieces that have a specific meaning to the wearer, or are symbolic in nature. I look for things that are uncommon, whether they be antique, global, or original. I include earth elements more often than not in many of my pieces, and I am one of those people that believes that stones have different properties for healing.

I am a fine artist, and instructor of painting and drawing. People wonder why I am creating jewelry now. The short answer is 'because I can'. I now have several (art) skills under my belt and I enjoy them all. I love creativity... it feeds the mind.

Returns and exchanges
::Return Policy::

If you are not satisfied with your item, you may return it unused and in its original condition for a refund, however, the shipping charges are non-refundable. Items must be returned within two weeks of receipt, and customer is responsible for return shipping cost. If anything would happen to break within one month of ordering, then I am happy to re-make the item if supplies for that particular item are available. I am ordering my supplies from many different places, and will do the best I am able, to correct any problems.

Every jewelry gift you purchase (for yourself or a loved one) comes packaged in a box - with an anti-tarnish pad. Earrings come on a card and are secure in the box with the padding. Necklaces and bracelets are pinned to the pad whenever possible so that they are secure in the box. They are ready to be opened by the recipient as a gift. I package the box in a bubble wrapped standard mailer and make sure the package is secure.

Should something happen to break or get damaged in transit, just send the item back to me. The amount paid for the item is refunded. I insure everything over 50.00 dollars that I send via U-Pic in the event that something would be damaged or lost in transit.
Payment
I accept payments through pay pal and also through the credit card option through etsy.
Shipping
For jewelry items that are available in my shop, I will ship items within 3-5 days- which is the maximum time for items that are available. Usually, I ship faster than this. Some items are 'Made to Order', and for those items please note the ship time. I do my best to ship as soon as possible.

For WOODWORKING/BOARD orders, please inquire about the ship out time if you are in a rush, so that I know you are in a rush. I make my display boards in batches, and these are a best seller, so my production time varies depending on where I am in production. I can give you an accurate estimated time for ship out time if you message me. Maximum time for shipping out is 2 weeks. We do SOME custom board and display orders, depending on the situation and what the project entails. Just inquire via messaging.

For CUSTOM jewelry items, message me and I can give you a quote on ship out time. There is usually a 1-2 week wait on the item, however, each item and/or situation is unique. I can provide pictures of the custom item for your approval before shipping.

All items are shipped via USPS: First Class Mail. I will quote you a price for upgrades to priority, next day air etc- just send me a message via Etsy, and I can modify the price of the shipping on the listing before you purchase.

If you have purchased your item already, and want to upgrade, that's easy too. I make a separate listing for an upgrade to priority.

I insure items that are over 50.00 dollars.

We use leather cord or thick leather for many of our necklaces. The leather cord will assume some wear over time- depending of course on how much you wear the piece. (6 mo's - 1 year shows some wear) Convo me if you would like to replace the leather at any time, and we will replace the leather for an 15.00 charge, and it will look like new:) Return shipping to and fro is not included- and we will make a custom listing for you.
