Care of Doilies and Table Runners
You can machine wash on a gentle cycle I caution you not to wash with anything that has buttons or snaps that could catch on the crocheted edge. I wash mine by hand like you would a sweater. I wash in warm water with lemon cascade dish washing powder not liquid ( do not use bleach of any kind). The lemon cascade will keep your doilies white and after it is rinsed well I squeeze out as much water as much as I can and then I roll it up in a towel and squeeze all the water out (do not ring out the water). Then I lay them flat and let them dry. Press with a steam iron on a medium setting pulling all the point out and making them as even as you can or until you like what you see. You can spray them with spray starch while ironing for body or you can starch them like I do see below.
After Ironing the doily or table runner I place an old plastic table cloth on my table (to keep from getting my table wet) and cover it with old bath towels. I mix liquid starch in a spray bottle 60% starch and 40% water or what ever mixture you want to get the stiffness you want. I lay the doily or table runner upside down on the towels and spray with the starch mixture until the item is soaked and then I move it to a dry towel somewhere where it can lay flat until dry. Now you are ready to touch them up with a steam iron again then they are ready to use. Any questions please let me know.
