About BetsyRooCreations

Sales 201
On Etsy since 2015

Welcome to Betsy Roo Creations!

I make original linocut prints, entirely by hand. I print my linoleum blocks onto cards and tea towels, and make some as art prints to hang on the wall.

//PROCESS//
My process is pretty labor-intensive. First, I draw the design in my sketchbook. Then, I transfer the design onto the linoleum block, using tracing paper, so that it is a mirror image. I then carve the design into the block with a special cutting tool, being careful to work in the reverse. Next, I roll the block with block printing ink. Then, I place the paper on top of the inked block, and press it and smooth it to ensure an even transfer. Lastly, I peel back the paper to reveal the print. That last part is like a little surprise each time! I never know exactly how the print will come out...which is why no two are exactly the same.

//BACKGROUND//
I got started with linocut printmaking in the fall of 2011, when I was in the midst of a 365-day creativity project (which I never did finish). This was an endeavor to get back in touch with my creative side. I did many art and craft projects, some small and some big, and tried a lot of new things. One of the new things I learned was relief printing. I fell in love with it and, after learning this skill, I felt like I could make anything. Since then, I've practiced and honed my skill, and I am always learning.

I hope to bring a smile to the face of those who see my work! Please get in touch if you have any questions or comments about anything. Thanks so much for visiting my shop.
