About

Biography

Karin has been silkscreening since 1999, sewing since grade school. She began teaching and selling her own craetions in Chicago 2002 after she graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Moving back to New York she settled in Bushwick, Brooklyn 2007 where she continued to work on her line "Better Than Jam," of her own hand printed textiles and self sewn clothing and accessories. In 2010 she made the plunge and opened her first boutique location at 1087 Flushing Ave. 2015, she and the shop made a huge move to 20 Grattan St, to an old warehouse space. In this space the simple boutique has been transformer into a store, communal studio space, and learning center. In the retail space one can purchase locally handmade gifts and fashions, sewing craft and art supplies, take classes and workshops of the craft and small business variety, as well as rent studio space and time hourly, daily, or monthly.

Hello there! Just want to say first that I want everyone who buys something from my site happy that they did so. Most of my pieces are one of a kind or one of maybe four. So you will get a very original piece. I try not to replicate anything, but if you see something that you like, and then it disappears, I can try to make something similar for you. Most of the fabric is washable unless I let you know that it's not. Not because the print ink will come off, but because of the fabric itself, shrinking for example. I recommend that you do all your washing in cold water gentle cycle, to prolong the life of the piece and to save energy. Try to be green when ever you can!

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
  • Other Method
Returns and exchanges
No refunds, exchange only. (Unless for some reason there is an issue with the construction of the garment or print, that is the fault of BTJ.) Shipment back of item at the cost of the buyer. Exchange shipment at the cost of BTJ. Damaged items will not be accepted back. It is highly suggested that when shipping back to BTJ, you insure that item for it's cost. If you receive an item that is damaged due to postal service, you will either be refunded, or if possible, shipped an almost identical item or similar of your choosing.
Payment
Any.
Shipping
Most orders go out immediately. Larger orders will be sent to the post office the next Tuesday after your order. I am a believer in shipping first class through the US postal service. Item receives tracking and insurance of cost of piece. Never had any issues. If you would like another form, just let me know and I'll let you know the extra cost.
