About

Small Batch Supply Co.

I live in and love my hometown of Los Angeles. Inspired by the city I love, I decided to try my hand at creating leather goods that I could use in my everyday life.

During a trip to Ventura in 2010 I bought a few rudimentary leather working tools and my first hide. I learned that making things out of leather is hard work but it’s work that I look forward to. Five years later I haven’t stopped in my journey to improve my craft and opened Small Batch Supply Co. in 2012.

There are a few basic principles that I adhere to:

I thoughtfully design each item so you get a piece that will enhance and compliment your lifestyle and hopefully inspire you.

I am very picky about the materials I use in my products. All of the leather, thread, and hardware is made in the United States. I believe that products using materials sourced from China, or elsewhere, cannot truly be considered a U.S.A. made product. If I can’t find a piece that meets my expectations, I make it myself.

All of these things mean that when you buy a Small Batch product you’re getting something that’s made by the owner, you’re keeping a dying art alive, and you’re supporting a truly American business.

How to care for your leather product...

Your product was made with vegetable-tanned leather. Before shipping it out to you we finished it with a coat of leather balm with atom wax for a nice smooth finish and a light coat of neatsfoot oil.

Leather is a tough material that can take a lot of abuse. Vegetable-tanned leather is meant to be used outdoors and take on any adventure. However, over time and with use the finish can wear off and the leather can become dry.

Here are some tips on how to care for your leather product.

Cleaning Leather - After some use, you will probably notice that your leather product has become a bit dirty. Take some time to clean it with mild castile soap or hand dishwashing liquid, diluted at least 1:10 (you do not want it to be sudsy), and allow it to dry before conditioning.

If your product is starting to look dry - If you begin to notice that the shine that was once there is wearing off and looking dry, take some time to care for your product. If your product is not exposed to the outdoors very much, care for it once or twice a year, if your product is exposed to the sun most of the time it is used, we recommend that you care for it 3-4 times a year.

Leather Care Instructions - To care for your leather product we recommend that you condition it lightly with any commercially available weather proofing conditioner product designed for vegetable-tanned leather. Simple oils such as mineral oil, neatsfoot oil (we recommend this) or olive oil work well. Simply rub in a light coat evenly, then buff it with a clean dry rag. You can repeat these steps as many times as you like, but keep in mind that conditioning leather usually darkens it slightly (this is normal).
