Would you like a behind the scenes look at how some of the pieces are made ? Have a look at this 2 minute video. It's hot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9afwn4eWdPE

About how the items are made : Soup to nuts made in NYC.

All the items that are reproducible like cast pieces are cast in Manhattan. Being that space is limited and casting is potentially dangerous I use professional casters.
Do you know how to cast ? Yes of course. I've done it. It's really magic and it's pretty simple but there are laws about casting in NYC for good reason. I do have an upstate casting barn fantasy that may one day come into being.

Metals. All the metals I have cast are reclaimed and purified recycled material from a bonded US source.

Polishing and finishing. I do that at the store. I have a basic tumbler, flex shaft, steam cleaner, and two station polish and buff machine.

Stones. I select stones in person from a few small dealers on 47th street.

Stone setting.
Some of the stone setting I do at the shop. More expensive stones ( diamonds ) I take to my man Jose on 47th street.

Engraving.
Did you know one of those machines is $4000 ? I have personalized engravings done by James at JMK on 47th street. I just don't have space for an engraving machine at the store but it would be really cool to have one.

Carving.
I have a couple friends of many years who carve for the line. Both live and work here in NYC.

Cad design.
Well, a couple pieces where made by hired guns. The heart vase for example was a cad generated project. There are some larger items that lend themselves to cad design. But to be honest for now the human hand just does a better job. I'm not a big fan of cad. Not for any far reaching artistic reason. The technology just isn't there yet especially for the organic forms I work in.

So, none of this is made in China ? Nah, I've talked to plenty of people who go that route and really I just want to be able to sit across the desk from the people that I am working with and check the quality two or three times a week. In addition I have an artistic relationship with the family that does the casting in NYC. We solve problems together. More than once a completely different piece has been invented by someone there saying : " Wait ! what if we do like this ? ! " You don't get that if you aren't there to build that relationship.

I'm a prolific tinker who is coming out with new work all the time.

Would you like an occasional update on new works, news and sales ? I won't bombard you nor sell or share your email I promise. There is also an unsubscribe option that is easy to use as well.

BAD-ASS! Not my first item from BlueBayer, and it won't be my last. I love the detail and the heft, despite being just a bitty little bat skull. I also love the little *clink clink* sound the jaw makes as I walk. :D

About

Why not just make it in NYC ?

Visit the Store/Studio.
Blue Atelier 40 Clinton Street NY NY 10002
In New York's historic Lower East Side. Btw Stanton and Rivington.
Closed Mondays.

I have been selling my work on the street for 20 years. I started at The Key West Sunset Celebration in 1989. From there I traveled selling work on Grateful Dead tour for many years and fell into the Renaissance Faire circuit which I am still part of.
Having traveled all over the world selling my pieces I found myself living in NYC and selling on the street with a great community of artists in the East Village on Astor place. Katwise would pull her crazy colorful bus up and we really had a happening going. The NYPD under pressure from the East Village " business improvement district " BID shut it down in 2008.
Someone suggested selling on Etsy. With the help and encouragement of some good friends I opened my shop and it took off. It's been a wild ride.
In October 2014 I opened a store/studio in The Lower East Side. Blue Atelier 40 Clinton Street NY NY 10002. The whole line shown on Etsy lives there as well as one of a kind pieces,
I choose to produce the pieces in NYC because I can keep a tight control on quality and because some of the world's best carvers, casters and stone setters are all a few minutes away.
I'm truly grateful for the chance to make my work and have access to you, the collectors and supporters of this odd en devour.

Thanks for shopping at Blue Bayer Design NYC!

I am pretty much a one-man operation, with a few helpers, so that means you are dealing with me directly, and not some large automated corporation. Please realize that my products are hand-made and may not look precisely like the item's corresponding photos. There are slight casting, construction, and color variations on each individual piece, in addition to the subjective imagery inherent in the photography itself. It can be difficult to really understand the piece until you have it in your hands. Fortunately, customers are almost always more impressed with the pieces than they are with the pictures. That said, please communicate with me via Etsy for special inquiries and I will do my best to take good care of you. I appreciate your support of my work! Also, all of my pieces come gift-boxed.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
Please pay for your item when you order it via Etsy Direct Checkout using your credit card or by using PayPal.

Please be aware that your country may charge import duty on your order. I do not falsify documents and mark orders as gifts.
Shipping
All of my pieces are shipped in a complimentary gift-box.

Please refer to shipping section of each item to determine how long it will take to sned your order out. In stock pieces generally go out in 3 to 5 days. Rings that are cast to your sizes take longer. I will message you a shipment confirmation number when your order is in the mail and on it's way! Yay!

(Domestic Shipping)> I ship using USPS First Class Mail + Delivery Confirmation, which doubles as a tracking number you can plug-in at usps.com

(International Shipping) > I encourage you to purchase US Postal Service Express Mail as your shipping option. Yes it is $62 but it is the only service to tracks your parcel all the way to your door. This insures against loss and theft.

(International Buyers): I don't pay for your country’s Import Taxes, Duties, VAT, etc... Please research what your item will cost by the time it gets in your hands. I do not falsify customs forms, so please don't ask me to do so. I don't make any sort of profit from import taxes whatsoever. All of that money goes directly to your country’s government.

MISSING ORDERS:
Please be advised that Blue Bayer Designs is not responsible for orders that get lost in the mail or held by customs officers. If you feel your order got lost please contact your local post office, or your country's import office to attempt to find your order. Often times, the order is just awaiting your payment of a duty and/or there was a lapse in communicating its arrival to you.

Ring size errors : If the buyer makes a mistake on a ring size a $25 to $30 charge plus postage may apply depending on if the ring is a simple in stock piece or one that requires stone setting. Engraving that needs to be redone on a piece will also be $25 to $30. Please take time to be certain of the size.
Refunds and Exchanges
Refunds and exchanges : If you don't like it, send it back within 10 days of receiving it and I will refund you or exchange it for something else. Please include a note with your paypal email address telling me what you would like.

If there is something that needs to be fixed for some reason, then send it back and I will replace or repair it. Leaving bad feedback before contacting me about any problems with your order, leaves me, and you, powerless. If there’s a problem with your order, please empower yourself by contacting me through Etsy, so I can work with you to resolve the issue. I’m not some large company, so you will be dealing with me directly.

Often if a ring is too small a local jeweler can stretch it right there on the spot for an exact fit and save you the wait and trouble of sending it back here.

Sending items back. Please don't be frugal and do make sure you buy insurance and tracking when sending an order back. I have sadly had items disappear on their return here to NYC. I will not take responsibility for items lost in the mail so please protect the order with tracking and insurance.

MISSING ORDERS:
Please be advised that Blue Bayer Designs is not responsible for orders that get lost in the mail or held by customs.
