Hand-Crafted, Quality Knitting and Crochet Bags Come from Bird Leg Bags
To supplement her part-time income, and make a little extra money for her yarn habit, Vickie pulled together months of research and decades of sewing experience to create a line of hand-crafted zippered bags for knitters like herself, or anyone who needed a stylish and functional bag. In 2011, she opened an Etsy shop and called it Bird Leg Bags in memory of the nickname given to her by her grandmother who always got a chuckle out of Vickie’s skinny legs.
Vickie is a third-generation seamstress, and every bag produced at Bird Leg Bags reflects the attention to detail and quality she learned from her mother and grandmother. Honed with years of practice, the quality and detail of her bags is evident in features like high-quality fabrics, heavyweight interfacing, professionally finished and serged seams, and top-stitched zippers. A Bird Leg Bag is made to last.
Because of the focus on quality and durability, the demand for Bird Leg Bags quickly grew to the point that allowed Vickie to leave her part-time job and focus on the shop full-time. In 2013, Vickie’s husband Danny joined the Bird Leg Bags team. With Danny’s help, Bird Leg Bags is now able to offer wholesale orders while maintaining the Etsy shop from their home in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. In addition, Danny brings his skills in graphic arts to design exclusive fabrics for Bird Leg Bags.
Though Vickie may not have as much time to knit as she once did, Bird Leg Bags has become a satisfying creative outlet for herself and Danny. It has also become a source of comfort for their dog Kayla who is appreciative to have both of them at home all day to ply for treats. Vickie and Danny are grateful for their customers and the many friendships they have formed as a result of Bird Leg Bags.
"Thank you!" says Kayla
Kayla is the mascot of Bird Leg Bags. She oversees the owner, Vickie Knestaut and her husband Danny, and makes sure their bags are of high quality and worth every penny so Vickie and Danny can afford to keep her in treats.
