About

A Journey into the Wonderful World of Plants

My local tropical coastal forest environment inspires my earth focussed eco sensitive wearable art creations. The natural environments of our planet and our health is being threatened by our insensitive and destructive practices, forcing us to look at safe, natural alternatives to synthetic chemical dyes and fibres in the clothing we wear on our skins and for our mother earth. It probes us to return to the old ways of creating colour using plants as has been done for thousands of years.
My latest range of eco dyed and printed, natural fibre clothing and textiles seems to capture the subtle essence of nature and the forest. Leaves, pods and flowers imprint their striking colour diversity and beauty on the cloth like the forest essence itself is captured on each piece. Every leaf and plant is different and every new piece is such a beautiful surprise!!
I am an earth lover, friend of the plants, ethnobotanist, grower of native plants and admirer of the wonder of nature and my latest range is my latest journey of learning into the wonderful world of plants. My leaf collecting adventures teach me so much about the cycles of nature and divesity in all living things, and I am excited by every new lesson. I am always amazed at the diversity of colour the leaves surrender in the dyepot and every one of my creations is a exciting and beautiful surprise.
I am currently undertaking an Artist in Residency at the Cairns Botanical gardens and creating dyes from plants in the garden collection. This will cumulate in an Exhbition at the Tanks Art Centre later in the year. I have a number of exhibitions in Australian galleries this year. I thank the plants for the teachings and the pleasure they give me.
Thanks for sharing my latest journey into the wonderful world of plants!!
