Birney Creek: A 21st century cabinet of curiosities

Birney Creek has enjoyed an online home here on Etsy for the last decade. My shop features a wide array of fine antiques and quality collectibles, many of which are hand crafted, one-of-a-kind pieces. My inventory is assembled from multiple sources which include auctions and estate sales along with a large number of items consigned by clients in the greater Cincinnati area. All pieces are thoroughly vetted.

I have sold pieces to thousands of happy customers in dozens of different countries and invite you to browse through my shop -- I hope you will find something special here to feather your own nest!

UPDATE: Where was that beautiful picture taken??

Multiple customers have reached out to ask where my beautiful shop banner picture was taken. The picture is also featured on the front of my shop's thank-you notes. My talented husband and chief photographer Bob took the snap when we were living in England. We spent much of our free time traveling around the UK and lived about an hour from this lovely spot. The scene is located on the grounds of West Wycombe Park, a country house built between 1740 and 1800 near the village of West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. The village of West Wycombe and the house and grounds have been featured in multiple films and television shows, and are part of The National Trust. We highly recommend checking out the property if you have the opportunity - bring a hamper with some nibbles and enjoy a bottle of Prosecco! 🍾🥂

My husband is responsible for all of Birney Creek's fantastic photography. He keeps a mean spreadsheet and handles other behind-the-scenes tasks that free me up for reconnaissance and research.

My (usually) willing assistant is happy to help schlep packing materials or to carry cumbersome parcels to the Post Office. I would be lost without him!

Frequently asked questions
How do I buy something on Etsy?

New to Etsy? For more information about the purchasing process, check out this helpful step-by-step guide:

Do you have a layaway plan?

I offer layaway on items priced in excess of $100. Please contact me for specific terms and conditions.

Can I expedite shipping?

Normally, orders will be packed and mailed within 2 business days of receiving payment. Shipping can be expedited - please contact me before purchase so I can determine the most expedient and cost effective shipping method.

Is my purchase insured?

All purchases are fully insured. According to insurance carrier stipulations, all items sold for $750 or more are shipped with a signature required on delivery.

My item was lost/damaged in the mail. What do I do?

No worries - all purchases are fully insured. In the unlikely event that an item is damaged in shipment, please notify me immediately upon receipt of the parcel.

All packaging material and damaged goods must be kept in the original form as received. Packaging and damaged goods must not be disposed of, released to the shipping carrier, or returned to me before a claim is completed. Failure to comply will result in claim denial.

Photograph the damaged item and all packing materials for insurance documentation purposes - multiple photos are recommended. During the claims process, a signed claim statement/affidavit will also be required. Please note claims adjustors may ask to examine the parcel when the claim is filed.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes - my shop has shipped parcels to happy customers in dozens of countries located on 6 continents. If you don't see your country listed as a shipping destination, please contact me for a shipping quote to your location.

Your country may impose duty/tax/VAT and/or parcel handling fees which are the responsibility of the buyer. Outbound and return shipping charges will not be refunded due to failure to pay VAT and/or parcel handling fees.

Please be aware it is unlawful for me to falsify dollar amounts on customs forms or to mark your purchase as a "gift" in order to avoid duty charges; please refrain from asking me to do so.

Please send your phone number when you place your order to expedite delivery.

I want to return my purchase. What do I do?

Customers must contact me within 14 days to initiate returns and are responsible for all return shipping costs including insurance. Items are often fragile/irreplaceable thus full insurance is required. Retain insurance documentation/parcel tracking numbers for your records.

Items must be received by me in original undamaged condition. Use of new packaging material is highly recommended to protect you against liability for damage in shipment. Refunds will be issued after the parcel has arrived and the contents have been examined for potential damage in shipment. Refunds will not be given for items that are lost/damaged in shipment.

Please note I do not refund shipping costs either way on change of heart returns or failure to pay VAT.

What kind of shipping materials do you use?

Vintage and antique items are a great way to shop green!

Fragile items are securely packaged and often double boxed to protect them whilst in transit.

Please note that in consideration of the environment, clean and sturdy recycled materials may be used for shipping. I also utilize brand new natural biodegradable starch packing pellets which can be recycled or reused by parcel recipients.
