OMG! This bracelet you made for me is stunning. The stone is more than a stone, it has crinoids in it, cut on the bais so I get to see their star-pattern. SQUEE! Definitely my favourite piece. =D The necklaces you did are equally as awesome. The ladies are going to L.O.V.E. them.

About

Black Ant Beads, my story:

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my little Etsy shop!

Since this is the “About Me” section, I guess I should tell you all a little bit about myself. So here we go…
I was born to two wonderful parents – my dad was a philosophy and religion major and my mother was an art major…they even met in the art department. So, growing up, there were always arts and crafts going on. Mom has always been into quilting, basket weaving, antique button collecting, and sewing clothes for me and my sister. Then when I was 6 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. So, I quickly got used to poking my finger tips with needles 4 or 5 times a day and taking 2 to 4 shots a day. My family decided to go to a Diabetes day camp one year and one of the other moms was making beaded amulet bags…Mom was hooked and so was I. By this time I was in the second grade and was ready for something more challenging than simple daisy chains. Unfortunately, my little fingers were not nimble enough for the delicate work. Back to daisy chains I went and soon began working with macramé. By fourth grade I was doing much better with Nymo and a size 12 beading needle. I was doing well enough for people to stop me and ask about my bracelet. The funny thing was though that people always asked if it hurt when I poked myself with the beading needle. My answer was always, “No, I don’t even feel it.” This was true because of all my time poking my fingers to check out what my blood sugars were. Then in the sixth grade our family decided to homeschool! Mom picked an awesome curriculum that allowed my sister and me to study the same history at the same time. Mom and dad love knowledge too so mom would usually read out loud to us girls…the perfect time to do more beading! Over time my skills grew and grew. I got better at what I knew and learned new things. My family supported me in my love for bling and my grandparents even gave me subscriptions to beading magazines for Christmas. And then there was the time that I met Peggy McCormick (a published bead artist) at Kroger! She was awesome and encouraged me to do more! She even sent me a little treasure box full of Delicas!!
As time has passed I have learned new techniques and learned to work with different mediums. I have been creating my own designs all along and am very pleased to say that they have improved greatly. I had my first show in 2010 and had so much fun! I know that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life!
…So, that is the “little bit” about me…hope it wasn’t too much!

Shop policies

Last updated on October 29, 2012
Hello everyone! Thanks for caring enough about my jewelry to take a look at my policies. Please take time to look around and get a feel for who you are buying from.
My name is Elise a.k.a. Black Ant and I have been making jewelry for the past 15 years! I love crafting (knitting, stamping, clay, tatting, paper making, origami, you name it!) and that love of crafting and creating always makes its way back into jewelry. Although most of my pieces are beaded, you will find some other pieces that incorporate other crafts. Jewelry and crafting are my passion! I love create and I hope you enjoy what I’ve done.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
  • Other Method
Payment
I accept payment through PayPal (which also accepts credit cards!) Payment is expected within 4 days of your ordering. If payment is not received within 4 days the order will be canceled.
Indiana state tax will be automatically applied to those who live in Indiana.
Payments for custom orders will be divided in two parts. The first 50% will be paid up front before I begin working of the jewelry. This payment will not be refunded for any reason. The second half will be due when the piece is finished and shipped.
I would be glad to hold an item for you for up to 2 weeks with a 10% non-refundable deposit.
If you prefer to use a layaway plan I would be glad to oblige. A 25% deposit paid at the time you order will assure you 8 weeks to pay the rest.
To redeem a coupon simply add the items to your cart and then click the cart button. This will bring you to your cart where you will find all your goodies. Click on the text that says “Apply Shop Coupon Code.” Then enter the coupon code and hit “Apply.” The coupon will automatically be applied and you will have your discount!
If you have a gift certificate you would like to apply please select other on the payment option and enter the gift certificate code into the note to seller section. I will then send you an amended invoice which will be under normal payment rules.
Also…if you are interested in barter…I would be open to that. I would love to trade some of my jewelry for your awesome handmades, vintage, or supplies! Convo me, and we will set it up!
Shipping
I ship via United States Postal Service (USPS) with delivery confirmation.
If you would like, I will add insurance at cost to the buyer.
Each item comes gift wrapped and packed with care to avoid breakage.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to really love the jewelry I make for you so, if you are not completely and utterly happy with your purchase you may return the item within 7 days of receiving it for exchange or store credit (this policy excludes custom orders). Item must be in its' original packaging and in perfect, unworn condition. Shipping costs will not be refunded.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you see something you like, but it is not perfect just convo me! I would be happy to change colors, lengths, materials, or even alter designs for you if you would like a semi-custom job. Also, if you want something completely different let me know what you are thinking. I love to do one-of-a-kind pieces! If you want something to match a new outfit or, say, bridesmaids’ dresses let me know! Any customer order questions are totally welcome.
As you wear your jewelry, please remember that it is all held together with tiny little threads. So, do not tug on the jewelry. Sometimes, thread will break for no apparent reason, other times you will know exactly why it fell apart. No matter how it happened, I will be glad to repair the piece – even if you did not buy it from me. Just convo me and we will work something out.
If you are interested in purchasing some of my jewelry for wholesale, I would be pleased to discuss the details via Etsy conversations.
