The yarn life: From raw fiber to handmade treasures.

My mother and grandmother taught me to knit and crochet when I was a young girl. While I wasn’t immediately addicted, their lessons planted the seed for what is now one of my life's passions.

In graduate school, I began to knit in a serious way after I learned to spin yarn with a drop spindle. At the time, yarn was a pleasant distraction from the rigors of the academy. Though I began by knitting patterns from books and magazines, I was quickly drawn to the intelligent knitting designs described by Elizabeth Zimmermann in her many books on the craft. EZ's playfulness inspired me to adapt some of her "recipes" to use my own handspun yarn.

Soon after I learned to spin, I began to dye yarn and spinning fiber. I was immediately fascinated with creating new colorways, and before I knew it, I had dyed more fiber than I could spin in several years. Once I mastered drop spindling, I purchased a spinning wheel so that I could spin larger skeins of yarn. It wasn't long after this that I opened my Etsy shop so that I could share some of my creations with other fiber enthusiasts.

Though my graduate school years are behind me, yarn and fiber still accompany me on creative adventures nearly every day. I am inspired by many things, but especially by the earth’s natural colors and forms, as well as by the eloquent and skillful knitting heritage of Ireland.

My favorite fibers to work with include merino, bluefaced leicester, and polwarth wools, silk, kid mohair, baby camel, cashmere, and yak. While I enjoy all colors, I am particularly drawn to the green-blue-indigo-violet portion of the color spectrum.

I hope that you find as much joy in the fiber arts as I have.

Additional policies and FAQs
Every attempt is made to provide accurate photographs, however, be aware that color may vary from monitor to monitor.

I take great care to make sure that dye is heat set sufficiently and exhausted so there is minimal to no color run-off. Due to differences in water chemistry around the world, what runs clear for me may bleed a little for you. Please hand wash your items with like colors in cold water using a gentle wool soap (I recommend Eucalan) and lay flat to dry.
