They're waiting to do a service until the spring and have been overwhelmed with food / flowers by local friends and neighbors. I wanted to send something to let him know I was thinking of him, but also offer a memento that could remind him of his dad in an uplifting way and embrace the memories as the years go by. This gift offered a wonderful sentiment and the perfect balance of remembrance too bring about a smile and sweet memories without being too direct / obtrusive. It was very well received by my friend and his wife (I didn't get to see it personally), and I hope it continues to bring about uplifting remembrance of his dad and their family in the years to come every time he sees it in his home or garden.
