About BlindDogYarns

"May no gift be too small to give, nor too simple to receive, which is wrapped in thoughtfulness, and tied with love." ~ L.O. Baird

I have always felt that handmade gifts mean so much more than store-bought ones. As a child, I would plan for months to make sure that my family and friends all got the "perfect" gift. I spent hours creating whether with yarn, fabric, glass, photos, paint--you name it, I've probably tried crafting with it.

I always return to yarn as my chosen medium. And I find working with my hands, whether it be crochet or spinning, relaxing yet challenging and such a welcome change of pace from software development (my day job).

The art yarn you see featured in some of the items in my shop is hand spun by me, and in most cases is hand dyed by me as well. I hand paint my wool using environmentally friendly, heavy metal free acid dyes. The dyes I use comply with the Organic Trade Association's criteria for organic processing.

The shop name, Blind Dog Yarns, is inspired by my dog, George, a blind Australian Cattle Dog and his crazy antics. I'm always telling stories about George to whoever will listen and I couldn't resist a good pun :)

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I love working with you if you have an idea that you don't see in my shop. Please send me a message with any ideas and we'll start a conversation.

I also welcome color changes. If you see something you like but want it in a different color please send me a message and I'll do my best to accommodate.

Please note that color changes aren't possible for ready to ship items but I'm more than happy to set up a made to order listing for you for your chosen color.

Shipping overages

I do my best to give you an accurate shipping price but since no two handmade items are exactly the same, sometimes I'm slightly off. I happily refund all shipping overages over a dollar.

Care instructions

Acrylic yarn does not felt and holds up well to washing and drying. Please wash on the gentle cycle and tumble dry low.

My handspun yarn is wool and will felt. For all items featuring my handspun yarn, hand washing and laying flat to dry is recommended.

Tell me about your wool

The majority of the wool featured in my cowls and scarves is a fine Merino wool. Most of it is also hand dyed by me using environmentally friendly, low impact dyes. These dyes are heavy metal free which keeps toxic metals from entering the environment, particularly groundwater, throughout the life cycle of the dye and wool.
